The Tadpole is a special vehicle made for exploring the deep underwater areas in Subnautica 2. It helps you explore parts of the game’s world that are difficult or impossible to reach by swimming. To get this vehicle, you need to find the correct blueprints first. Once you have the right parts and build it, you can also add upgrades to make it even better for underwater adventures.
One of the main reasons the Tadpole is so helpful is that it can go much deeper than your character can swim. While it has a depth limit and can start to break at certain depths, it can carry equipment, light up dark areas, and move faster than swimming. That’s why it’s a good idea to unlock the Tadpole early in the game. It opens up lots of new ways to discover the underwater world.
How to Find All the Tadpole Blueprints in Subnautica 2
You need to scan at least three Tadpole Fragments to unlock the blueprint. These fragments are scattered throughout the game world, often near interesting locations such as shipwrecks or underwater caves. Each fragment you scan grants you the recipe to build the Tadpole. While more fragments might be added in future updates, finding any three will give you what you need to craft the vehicle.
In Creative mode, the Tadpole is already unlocked, but in Survival mode, you’ll have to find these fragments and craft the vehicle yourself. Some fragments are easier to find because they are close to the starting Lifepod, but others require special tools like a Repair Tool or Scanner to reach them.
Here is a list of where to find each fragment, how far they are from your starting point, and the directions to get there:
| Tadpole Fragment | Distance from Lifepod | Location Description |
|---|---|---|
| #1 | 280 meters east-northeast | In a canyon with a current, next to a crate with a Turbine. |
| #2 | 380 meters east-northeast | Near the wreck of the Cicada ship, next to a Bioreactor. |
| #3 | 420 meters north-northeast | In the sands near crashed rocks and a wreckage, close to a Ruby blackbox. |
| #4 | 480 meters north-northeast | On the sea floor near discarded items, close to some jelly creatures. |
| #5 | Unknown | Not specified. |
| #6 | 160 meters south-southwest | Near the Great Jaw organism on cliffs by rocks. |
| #7 | 300 meters south-southwest | Inside a Colonist Bunker, near an upgrade station. |
| #8 | 515 meters east | On the floor in Zezuran Desert, only accessible with a heat-resistant suit. |
| #9 | N/A (story location) | In the Tadpole Pens during the main story. |
You only need to scan three of these fragments to unlock the blueprint, but you’ll also need the right resources to build the Tadpole. These include titanium ingots, system chips, power cells, and other basic materials found around the world. It’s easiest to gather titanium, as it’s the most common resource, and to mark where silver deposits are, since silver is a bit rarer.
Building the Tadpole
To craft the Tadpole, gather the materials listed below:
- Tadpole Core Vehicle: 2 Titanium Ingots, 1 System Chip, 1 Power Cell
- Moonpool: 5 Titanium
- Vehicle Fabricator: 2 Titanium Ingots, 1 Copper Ingot, 2 Glass
- Tadpole Deck: 2 Titanium Ingots, 1 Silver Ingot, 2 Copper Wire
Having friends to help gather resources speeds up the process, but you can definitely find everything on your own. Focus on collecting titanium, and keep a lookout for silver deposits to help with crafting.
