At the end of Life is Strange: Double Exposure, Safi goes into full Magneto mode. Now that she realizes she’s not the only one with supernatural powers, she wants to travel the world, seeking others with similar abilities. She plans to do this alone, leaving Max Caulfield behind to continue her life at Caledon University.
However, Safi also wonders if, when she returns someday, Max will help her learn to control and use her powers, or if she will continue to ignore her own time-travel abilities and encourage Safi to do the same. This guide examines the different outcomes depending on your choice: supporting Safi or refusing to help her.
Updated April 22, 2026, by Ben Jessey: The choice to support or not support Safi at the end of Life Is Strange: Double Exposure has become even more significant now because it influences the sequel, Life Is Strange: Reunion. We’ve added specifics to show how this decision impacts that game.
What Happens If You Join Safi?
If you agree and say you’ll help Safi when she returns, she hugs Max, and they share a heartfelt goodbye. Max promises to wait for her and tells her to stay safe. Safi then leaves, and Max smiles to herself, turning back to help Yasmin.
Initially, the outcome seems positive. But later, Moses criticizes Max for not standing up to Safi, saying, “She did some terrible things, Max,” and that Max basically approved. There’s little argument with that.
On the bright side, the results screen mentions that “Safi still believes in you,” indicating a strong connection.
What Happens If You Refuse Safi?
If you decline her offer, Max steps back, acknowledging the dangers of using her powers recklessly. Safi shapeshifts into Max and says, “Okay, Max Caulfield. Be seeing you?” before walking away. Max then helps Yasmin instead.
Later, at the Snapping Turtle, Moses tells you he’s glad you stood your ground against Safi and that it could make a difference. However, this choice leaves Safi feeling abandoned, with the results screen showing she believes you have “abandoned her like everyone else.”
How the Decision Impacts Life is Strange: Reunion
In the sequel, Life is Strange: Reunion, you start with choices reflecting your previous decisions. One key decision is whether you supported Safi at the end of Double Exposure, which influences her trust in Max.
Spoiler alert for Reunion!
If Max refused to support Safi, she becomes less trusting of her. This becomes crucial later when Safi is considering giving up her life, and players try to persuade her otherwise. When Max didn’t support her, it’s more difficult to convince her she’s loved and worth saving. If Max supported Safi earlier, convincing her to keep going is easier.
Overall, refusing Safi’s help doesn’t offer an advantage in Reunion, as it tends to make her less inclined to trust Max.
