Detective Alderman from the Vermont State Police in Life Is Strange: Double Exposure is sharp at following leads, especially when it comes to Safi’s murder. His investigation has led him to suspect Moses and Max, and he’s keeping a close eye on them.
After you recover Safi’s camera from Moses’ office, Alderman pulls you aside and asks for your help. He wants you to share any information about who took Safi’s camera and where they might be now. If you choose to help him, it’s considered a betrayal of Moses. If you refuse, you stand your ground.
If you decide to help Alderman:
Alderman thanks you and gives you his business card. You also unlock the achievement or trophy for doing the “Great, Do Crime” challenge. However, Moses overhears your agreement. Later, when you and Moses are about to review Safi’s photos, their conversation becomes tense.
You can try to tell Moses that Alderman gave you no choice or that you don’t truly want to help him. But it doesn’t seem to change much. When you find the photo of Max shooting Safi, Moses feels betrayed, accusing you of selling him out just to protect yourself, and he storms off.
Fortunately, this doesn’t lead to major consequences. After this, Moses learns about your powers and what happens to Alderman, and he seems to forgive Max eventually.
If you refuse to help Alderman:
Alderman reacts by saying he hopes you don’t really know anything, implying that hiding information could create trouble for you. Later, during a chat with Moses—who is clearly upset—you have two options: ask if there’s anything you can do for him or if he wants to talk.
Moses, when shown the photo of Max holding the gun, becomes more distant regardless of what you choose. He tells you to stay away from him, just as he would have if you had helped Alderman earlier. No matter what, Moses leaves upset, and the emotional fallout remains consistent.
Overall decision:
Choosing to help Alderman brings you closer to earning the Be Great, Do Crime achievement or trophy. It doesn’t significantly impact the story beyond that, as Moses eventually forgives you after he finds out what truly happened. Whether you help or not, your relationship with Moses stabilizes in the end.
If you’re aiming to maximize your achievements, helping Alderman is the way to go. However, if you prefer to avoid disappointing Moses and want a different experience, refusing assistance is understandable. Many players prefer to decline on their first run and help on a second, especially to keep the story feeling more personal and respectful.
