Resident Evil Requiem offers three different difficulty options on your first playthrough, and picking the right one can be challenging. While the gap between Casual and Standard might seem straightforward, splitting Standard into Modern and Classic modes adds complexity.
You can enjoy Requiem on any of these levels, and after finishing a playthrough, you unlock Insanity mode for an even tougher experience. Each difficulty setting serves a different purpose. Whether you’re new to the Resident Evil series or an experienced player with years of gaming behind you, there’s likely a best fit for you.
Casual Mode in Resident Evil Requiem
Casual mode is designed for players who want to relax and enjoy the story and puzzles without too much difficulty. It significantly reduces the challenge of enemy encounters, allowing foes and bosses to go down much faster. If you’re an experienced gamer, especially familiar with Resident Evil, Casual might not be the right choice unless you’re not confident in your shooting skills.
Modern vs. Classic Mode in Resident Evil Requiem
For most players, Standard (Modern) mode is the safest choice, offering a challenge similar to recent Resident Evil titles and other modern games. It provides a balanced experience with rewarding challenges that aren’t frustrating. If you find it too tough, you can switch to Casual on the game-over screen.
Standard (Classic) mode is more reminiscent of older Resident Evil games, especially those on PlayStation. It uses a traditional save system where you need ink ribbons to save your progress on Grace’s segments, and resource management becomes even more important. Dying as Grace in Classic mode usually means losing more progress compared to Modern, since autosave points are mostly removed, making every decision count.
Insanity Mode in Resident Evil Requiem
After completing the game, you unlock Insanity mode, which is described as an “intense gameplay experience only for those who dare.” Similar to modes like Inferno or Shadow Village, Insanity ramps up the difficulty, demanding careful resource management and mastery of combat against much deadlier enemies. Surviving in this mode is a real test of your skills and preparation.
No matter which difficulty you choose, Resident Evil Requiem promises plenty of memorable moments. If you’re seeking heightened tension, Classic (Standard) is a good pick, but Modern and Casual modes are less likely to lead to frustration.
