A beloved RPG trilogy is making its way to the PlayStation 5, reviving a classic series for modern gamers.
THQ Nordic has announced that the Gothic trilogy will be coming to PlayStation and Xbox Series X|S later this year. The first installment is scheduled for release on July 28, 2026, followed by the second game on September 29, and the trilogy’s conclusion on November 24. Each game will be priced at €29.99, roughly equivalent to $35 at the time of this update.
This news follows THQ Nordic’s reveal that they are remaking the first game, which is set to launch on June 5, 2026.
The Gothic series, developed by German studio Piranha Bytes, is well-regarded for its immersive, reactive environments where NPCs respond dynamically to player choices. The franchise began with the original game in 2001, followed by a sequel in 2002 and a third installment in 2006. A spin-off titled Arcania was released in 2010.
The original Gothic was praised for its innovative fully voiced dialogue and is notable as one of the first worldwide RPGs to feature this feature. It also gained fame through its active international modding community.
Set in a medieval fantasy world, the Gothic games follow players as they navigate a realm plagued by war and conflict. The story begins with the king sending all criminals into ore mines to fight against the orcs, which leads to unforeseen consequences and sets the stage for the entire adventure.
