The Metal Detector is a key addition in the Feybreak update that significantly enhances your ability to locate precious materials in Palworld. This tool was introduced in a major update to the game, making the often cumbersome task of hunting for specific resources much more straightforward. Instead of relying on luck or spending hours wandering around, the Metal Detector allows you to pinpoint what you need, making it easier to gather essential crafting materials.
With the Metal Detector, you can uncover hard-to-find materials and resources in Palworld, which is crucial for crafting powerful weapons, tools, and buildings. While some Pals can assist with finding items, the Metal Detector offers a far more dependable method, ensuring that locating materials is much less of a hassle. This upgrade is a significant improvement, speeding up your progress and enhancing the overall enjoyment of the game. It eliminates the guesswork associated with resource hunting, something that Palworld truly needed.
How to Unlock the Metal Detector
To acquire the Metal Detector in Palworld, you must reach a certain technology level and gather specific materials. Begin by achieving Technology Level 56, which you can accomplish by advancing through the main story and completing side quests to earn experience points. Once you’ve reached level 56, access the Technology section in your menu to unlock the Metal Detector recipe using Technology Points earned in gameplay.
However, unlocking the recipe doesn’t mean you automatically receive the Metal Detector; you’ll still need to craft it. This requires access to a Production Assembly Line II. Once your assembly line is set up, you’ll need 30 Plasteel, 100 Paldium Fragments, 30 Circuit Boards, and 20 Nightstar Sand. Plasteel, Paldium Fragments, and Circuit Boards can usually be obtained by dismantling equipment, completing quests, or exploring various areas in Palworld. Nightstar Sand is primarily found on Feybreak Island, often glowing near the beach or sandy areas during the night.
This is one of the few items from the Feybreak update that does not require farming hexolite quartz for crafting.
Crafting this item can take some time, so it’s advisable not to attempt it solo, even if your crafting skills are high. Instead, set up your assembly line and gather a group of Pals with strong crafting abilities to help you. The best Pals for crafting tasks are Lunaris, Wixen, Verdash, Lyleen, and Anubis. Having one of these Pals in your base dedicated to crafting will expedite the process significantly.
How the Metal Detector Works
Using the Metal Detector in Palworld is straightforward. First, equip it from your inventory to make it your primary tool. As you explore the world, particularly in areas like the caves on Feybreak Island or the Scorched Hill Zone, the Metal Detector will automatically scan for ores nearby.
When you get close to a Chromite deposit, the device will beep. The beeping will increase in frequency and volume as you approach. Simultaneously, the Metal Detector will change color from blue to red, indicating that you’re near the ore. This combination of sounds and visual cues makes it easy to find Chromite, even when engaged in battles with other Pals nearby.
Once you are very close, you will see a smoky effect surrounding the Chromite, which signals that you can use your pickaxe to collect it. Keep in mind that the Metal Detector has a limited range; if you move too far away from the deposit, the signal will fade, and you’ll need to search again. There’s an ample supply of Chromite on Feybreak Island, allowing you to gather plenty once you get into a good rhythm.
Learning how to use the Metal Detector is quite easy, and it only takes one attempt to understand how to find Chromite, an essential resource in Palworld. Just pay attention to the sounds and color changes to effectively locate and gather Chromite. Eventually, this will become second nature, allowing you to navigate Feybreak Island confidently, as you’ll be able to discover plenty of Chromite along the way.
