Whenever you begin a new cycle in Saros, your main goal is to defeat the boss at the end of that zone. In general, the bosses in Saros are the toughest challenges in the game. They test your skills with weapons, jumping precision, dodging, shielding, and parrying. The game is designed to be easier than Returnal. Each zone gives you a good chance to beat the boss, and making one small change to your strategy can make all of them much easier.

One of the biggest differences between Saros and Returnal is that Saros gives you a checkpoint at the start of every zone. You can teleport back to these checkpoints from the Passage. Dying is part of the experience, and Housemarque wants you to play through each zone multiple times so you can learn the rooms and enemy attack patterns. This can make your runs shorter and more fun, but you can also extend your runs by doing longer cycles through multiple zones, making yourself stronger along the way.

Repeating previous zones can make you very powerful, especially if you do it often. For example, if you’re stuck fighting the Legion boss at the end of the Blighted Marsh zone, you can start a new cycle from Saros’s first zone, Shattered Rise. Then you can beat the Prophet again and go through Ancient Depths and Shattered Descent, defeating Bastion and Rhabdom along the way. This process takes some strategic planning. Don’t pick up every Artifact you find in the earlier zones, because when you replay multiple zones, you need to manage your inventory. Picking too many artifacts can fill up your slots and cause you to leave behind some useful items.

To get the most out of your build, it’s helpful to activate the eclipse as early as possible in each zone. Also, you don’t always have to start at Shattered Rise. If you’re further into the game, try skipping ahead and completing two or three zones before facing the current boss. This helps you level up your proficiency faster, so you can use stronger weapons and have more chances to get the best guns for your playstyle.

Revisiting zones has many benefits. Not only does it improve your chances against bosses, but it also helps you progress further in the game and understand its story better. Replaying zones is the only way to unlock everything in Halcyon, as some areas are locked until you gain specific abilities later in the game. You’ll also earn a lot of Lucenite, which can be used to upgrade your Armor Matrix.

Additionally, many audio and text logs are only accessible when you revisit zones, giving you more insight into the story. While it might seem like replaying zones takes more time, it’s actually more efficient. Instead of repeatedly trying to master one zone, you build momentum by revisiting others, which makes you more powerful and efficient overall. Saros is designed to keep you in a flow state, racing through bosses and zones in a rhythm. When you hit a tough boss, the best strategy is often to go back and clear some previous zones to build a stronger, overpowered character.
