A South Korean studio founded by a former Neowiz executive has announced a new console-exclusive RPG for the PS5. The game, titled Zanerdin: The Unbound, is currently in development for PS5 and PC. While the premise sounds promising, its teaser trailer has left many viewers more puzzled than enthusiastic.
Zanerdin: The Unbound is described as a collectible, turn-based RPG that incorporates popular gacha mechanics but does not rely on microtransactions. Sanctuary Games states that the game’s full experience will be available for a one-time purchase price.
The game promises “60 unique battle stages complemented by hand-drawn narrative cutscenes.” That sounds intriguing, but the first trailer—posted on the official PlayStation YouTube channel—leaves much to be desired. Watch it here:
The trailer offers no gameplay footage, and it provides little information about the story. The comments section echoes many viewers’ sentiments, with many expressing confusion and disappointment about the trailer’s lack of clarity.
The official description introduces players to Kalatos, a fantastical world protected by six Blessings: Water, Fire, Earth, Metal, Wind, and Electric. The story centers around the Chaos region, a bleak area where inhabitants are born powerless. Players will assume the role of Zanerdin, a protagonist born into Chaos who ventures into the Blessed lands to uncover truths about his family.
No release date has been announced yet for Zanerdin: The Unbound.
