Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate recently launched its first significant expansion, introducing a new area for exhilarating battles and a fresh playable character—Casey Jones.
Casey Jones stands out as one of the most beloved characters in the TMNT franchise. Not only is he a fan favorite, but he also brings unique abilities and potentially powerful gameplay tactics to Splintered Fate. Here’s a rundown on unlocking him and making the most of his skills.
How to Unlock Casey Jones
To unlock Casey Jones, you must purchase the Junkyard Jam DLC pack that was released just yesterday. This will grant you immediate access to Casey, allowing you to play him at any point in the game, regardless of your progress in the storyline.
To switch to Casey, head to the Turtle lair and look to the left side of the room where characters can be selected. You’ll find Casey right next to the other Turtles, ready to join you in the fight against Shredder.
Casey Jones’ Moveset and Specials
Basic Attacks and Stats
Casey’s basic attack is a three-hit combo using his hockey stick, which has a range similar to Donatello’s bo staff and culminates in a powerful downward slam. His speed is balanced; he’s quicker than Raphael but not as fast as Michelangelo.
When it comes to special abilities, Casey’s attack grants a Guard Break effect on enemies for four seconds. This special move will also activate a Final Strike with a 30% chance for a critical hit on his next attack, making Casey a formidable character.
Special – Hockey Puck
What sets Casey apart in gameplay is his distinctive special move, which cannot be altered during runs. This move launches a hockey puck as a projectile attack, making him the only character in the game with a guaranteed ranged attack option.
While other Turtles have to rely on specific items for ranged capabilities, Casey gets a significant advantage with his hockey puck. The puck is powerful enough to defeat weaker enemies in one hit and can bounce between two opponents before disappearing, with potential upgrades available through Mastery pickups.
Tool – The Juice
Casey’s ultimate asset is his default tool, "The Juice." Utilizing this tool can expedite the recovery time of his special moves, making it recharge within seconds. At Level 1, it also provides a 30% boost to his overall damage, which can be enhanced to nearly 50% with upgrades. Although players can swap this tool during runs, it’s among the best options for sustained damage when playing as Casey.
Tips for Playing As Casey Jones
Despite Casey’s sound defensive capabilities with his ranged special, his basic attacks and combos are just as crucial. It’s essential to stay aggressive, keeping pressure on enemies to continually recharge his tool and special, unleashing them to maximize damage output.
During my time playing as Casey, I found that sticking with "The Juice" throughout my run was highly effective. While other tools like "Meteor Storm" come close, The Juice consistently enhances Casey’s offensive capabilities.
Given that Casey is the only character with an assured projectile attack, consider opting for extra dash charges during your runs. This will provide more mobility and better positioning to use his special ability effectively.
When it comes to enhancing Casey’s performance, Flame abilities seem to suit him best. Although luck plays a role in acquiring these abilities, options like Flame Strike, Flame Dash, and Rapid Fire complement Casey’s quick and agile combat style.
In conclusion, Casey Jones is a robust choice with a versatile playstyle that balances strength and unique abilities. Although he may not surpass Raphael in sheer power, his toolkit allows for varied and entertaining gameplay.
