Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s new Verso’s Draft area is filled with fresh content, sure to keep players busy for quite a while. The latest DLC, called “Thank You,” introduces a variety of new items and challenges, including new weapons, Pictos, tougher bosses, and new gameplay mechanics.
Although there aren’t many big decisions to make in this DLC, you’ll encounter numerous Gestral NPCs around the Gestral Resort. Some chat a bit dull, but others will give you mini-quests or puzzles that build on the existing Gestral Games from the main game. These include a fun see-saw ride, an annoying diving contest, and a balloon challenge from a Gestral named Romanifo.
Where to Find the Balloon Gestral in Verso’s Drafts
When you first enter the Gestral Resort area—located to the right after the main entrance to Verso’s Drafts—you’ll notice many Gestral NPCs. Some have simple chats, while others assign you mini-quests, like treasure hunts or balancing Whees and Whoos.
One such NPC is near the lower level of the resort, close to the see-saw challenge. From the diving board, follow the waterfall downstream until you see the Gestral on the see-saws and a small Half-baked Gestral at a balloon stand. This is Romanifo. He doesn’t want you to pop his balloons.
If you talk to the nearby Half-baked Gestral on the see-saw, one might suggest popping balloons is fun, but Romanifo insists otherwise. He calls these “mean brushes” and strongly urges you to leave his balloons alone.
What Happens If You Pop Romanifo’s Balloons
If you decide to cause trouble and pop Romanifo’s balloons using free aim shots before talking to him again, you’ll get two dialogue options: apologize or tease him by asking if he’s going to cry. No matter what, the balloons are popped, and you’ll have to face the consequences.
The fight that follows isn’t a normal enemy duel. Instead of combat with skills, you’ll need quick reflexes to shoot at balloons Romanifo summons to his left and right. Destroying these balloons damages him, and winning the duel requires shooting the balloons before he can react. During the duel, he can’t harm you, and regular attacks won’t work on him.
Why You Should Pop the Balloons
While you could choose to be nice and leave the balloons, popping them unlocks one of the best new Pictos in the DLC: Trigger Happy. This Pictos is especially great for those using a machine gun-focused build. It’s a free aim Pictos that, after firing 10 shots in one turn, grants +2 AP and +200% damage on subsequent shots. It’s perfect for maximizing powerful machine gun strategies, especially when combined with other free aim Luminas and AP boosts like Energising Shots.
After stealing 1,000 Chroma from Romanifo and threatening him back, he gets upset and says he wants his balloons returned. As of now, it’s unclear if there’s more to this quest, but updates will be shared if new details emerge.
Why Pop Romanifo’s Balloons
Going the bully route by popping the balloons is highly recommended. It not only rewards you with the Trigger Happy Pictos but also turns out to be a lot of fun. If you’ve never tried a proper machine gun build, it’s extremely powerful, particularly against the tough new bosses like Osquio and Simon the Divergent Star introduced in this DLC.
Enjoy the new challenges and the chance to try out different tactics with the powerful new tools available!
