Hacking is a key part of Pragmata. You’ll mostly do it by working with Diana to solve puzzles that involve quickly navigating maze-like grids or interacting with machinery. She can scan for important points and then help you hack your way through locked doors, elevators, and relay stations, as well as disable traps like lasers blocking your path.
The first time you see Diana hack during a fight—like when Hugh is riding her—you’ll unlock her hacking toolkit. This lets you activate her special hacking skills whenever necessary, which become vital for progressing and combat.
In the game, Diana and Hugh can help hack various objects, including:
– Transmitters and locks: Used to solve puzzles. After scanning with her ability, hacking will let you bypass security or open new paths.
– Doors and elevators: Throughout different sectors, hacking these is essential to access new areas.
– Traps and laser sensors: Disabling them helps you avoid damage and clear the way forward.
Look for glowing red triangles nearby; these indicate hacking points. Ask Diana to scan for them if you’re unsure where they are. Jump into interaction with the red node to start hacking.
Many hacking puzzles in Pragmata are straightforward. For example, you’ll often need to press four buttons in a specific sequence. Rounded hacking puzzles require tapping buttons from the largest to the smallest segments, working inward, sometimes with a spinning triangle reticle that demands precise timing to avoid failure.
Diamond hacks resemble the rounded puzzles but include lines running from smaller diamond shapes toward the center. Tap the buttons until these lines lead into the center of the diamond.
Most hacking activities are timed, so speed is important. You’ll encounter jammed hacking points, particularly in the Terra Dome, where red pulses interfere with signals. To succeed, quickly shoot down these shields to clear the grid, then quickly make progress before the pulses pass.
During combat, hacking enemy robots is especially effective. Diana can take control of enemies remotely, which can weaken or stun them, providing Hugh with an opening to land heavy damage. While hacking enemies isn’t always necessary, doing so usually makes fights easier by dropping their defenses or increasing damage taken.
However, hacking enemies also increases their aggression—they’ll hit harder and attack more frequently. Stay alert and keep your distance after hacking, so you can take advantage of the brief window when they are stunned or slowed.
To hack enemy units, use Diana to move through a grid toward the green square—the target node. Along the way, you’ll encounter different nodes:
– Blue nodes: Early in the game, passing through these increases damage dealt, so detouring to hit them is worth it if possible.
– Yellow nodes: These are options based on your loadout, such as extra damage or damaging multiple enemies at once.
– Purple nodes: These come from your in-game currency, Pure Lunum, and unlock special abilities to enhance hacking.
– Red nodes: Starting in the second sector, these appear on enemies and block progress. You must shoot the shields to open these nodes.
– Gray nodes: Sometimes present as obstacles, requiring you to find an alternate route around.
You can upgrade your hacking abilities at the Shelter using the Unit Printer and Firmware Upgrader, which boost the effectiveness of your hacks, reduce their duration, and increase damage. Additionally, later in the game, you’ll face enemies with red shields that prevent hacking. Destroy these shields to regain full control of the hacking grid.
Diana also has an Overdrive meter stored by completing hack tasks. Once filled, you can activate her Overdrive, which charges an incredibly powerful attack. This is particularly useful during boss fights. Upgrades available at the Shelter can also shorten her Overdrive charge time and increase its damage.
To maximize effectiveness, try to charge Diana’s Overdrive as early as possible and use it strategically. Upgrading this skill through the Unit Printer makes her attack stronger, faster, and more reliable. Later, you’ll unlock her brand new Deletion Protocol, a more potent version of her Overdrive move.
As you progress, you’ll gain access to different hacking modes. These provide unique benefits, such as turning open nodes into offensive or damage-boosting nodes, or adding heat-based effects. You need to select one mode at a time to equip, choosing based on your play style or current needs.
Each hacking mode alters the maze’s mechanics, and you’ll unlock more options as you level up at the Shelter:
– Overdrive Mode: Transforms open nodes into offensive ones, increasing damage.
– Strike Mode: Converts open nodes into high-damage strike nodes after hacking.
– Combust Mode: Adds heat nodes that can overheat enemies.
– Hybrid Mode: Balances open and offensive nodes.
– Boost Mode: Amplifies hacks with boost nodes, enhancing overall effect.
Hacking remains a crucial skill throughout Pragmata, with puzzles that test your reaction speed and strategic choices. Use your hacking tools wisely, upgrade them often, and incorporate them into your combat strategy for the best results.
