In Pokemon Legends: Z-A, with the Mega Dimension DLC, the only reliable way to find Feebas is by searching within a specific two-star Water-type Hyper Space Wild Zone located in Lumiose City. This zone appears randomly each day and night after completing “Hyperspace Mission 08: Hyperspace Lumiose Survey No.4,” which takes roughly five to seven hours into the DLC story. Once this mission is finished, these Wild Zones start spawning regularly in Lumiose City, offering new opportunities daily.
To locate Feebas’s Wild Zone, look for the Water-type icon on the map indicating a two-star Hyper Space Wild Zone. These zones are randomly generated, and because of the chance nature of spawning, you won’t always find Feebas. Feebas is quite rare compared to other Pokemon, and its spawn in these Wild Zones is less frequent compared to more common Water-type Pokemon like Magikarp or Panpour. To expedite your search, the best method is to rest at a nearby bench—especially the one near the Nouveau Cafe fast travel point—then wait for a new day or night cycle to trigger a fresh spawn. Cycling through this process involves resting and checking the map repeatedly until Feebas appears.
While hunting, keep an eye out for the specific silhouette of Feebas, which features a triangular fin on top of its body, with its right fin and tail shape visible in the spawn. Usually, you’ll need several rerolls—about eight full day and night cycles using the bench—to generate a Wild Zone that contains Feebas, often alongside other Water Pokemon like Magikarp or Panpour.
Since spawns are random, don’t expect to find Feebas every time. Out of roughly a dozen Feebas that might appear in these zones, players typically manage to catch at least six within a short two-minute survey, considering the high catch rate of Feebas, which remains a very weak Water-type Pokemon. When searching, the most effective approach is to throw Ultra Balls while Feebas is at full health, as it responds well to basic catch tactics.
To increase your chances, it’s advisable to catch at least two Feebas—one as a spare for future use, since a Prism Scale will be necessary for evolution. The Prism Scale is a rare item primarily obtained as a drop from Gold Poke Balls in the Mega Dimension’s Hyperspace Lumiose area, but the guaranteed way to get one quickly is by completing Side Mission 160, “Feebas’s New Friends.” This mission takes place in a pond located in the Vert District between Cafe Woof and Vert Plaza in Wild Zone 2. During this side quest, talk to NPC Soucian, who is near the pond, and give her a Feebas. It doesn’t matter if the Feebas isn’t IV-perfect; she will accept any, and as a reward, you’ll receive a Prism Scale and 1,600 Poke Dollars.
Once you have a Prism Scale on your Feebas, the next step is to perform a trade to evolve it into a Milotic. In Pokemon Legends: Z-A, the evolution method is standard—trade the held Prism Scale with another player through the Link Play menu. To do this efficiently, coordinate with a friend nearby or arrange a trade online, using a shared link code for security. Before initiating the trade, make sure to use the ‘Check Their Pokemon’ feature (press ‘R’) to verify that your trading partner is indeed holding a Prism Scale; if not, your Feebas won’t evolve, and you’ll have lost your opportunity without gaining a Milotic.
When trading, be sure to confirm the other trainer’s Prism Scale attachment to avoid losing your Feebas unnecessarily. After a successful trade where your Feebas is holding the Prism Scale, you’ll receive an alert indicating that it’s about to evolve. The evolution results in a Milotic, which you can add to your team for the remainder of the DLC story.
If you want to keep your own Milotic, arrange a separate trade to swap it back after the evolution. Conversely, if you want the Milotic from your trade partner, coordinate with them beforehand to ensure both sides get what they want. In cases where no mutual trade is possible, engaging with local player communities or social media groups can help find trading partners willing to swap Feebas for Milotic or vice versa. Platforms such as Reddit, particularly the r/LegendsZA subreddit, are active and can facilitate quick trades. Usually, setting up a trade with a stranger takes around ten minutes, but this timing can vary depending on your location and player activity levels.
The key point during trades is to confirm that the other player’s Feebas has a Prism Scale attached before finalizing the exchange. If it’s not attached, the trade won’t result in Milotic, and you’ll have essentially given away your Feebas for nothing. When successful, your Prism Scale-holding Feebas will evolve into a Milotic immediately after the trade completes, and you will receive a confirmation in the game indicating the evolution.
With the trade complete, your new Milotic will be ready for use in the ongoing Mega Dimension DLC. If you wish to trade your Milotic back, make sure to arrange this beforehand, so you both can swap back the Pokemon to keep or trade away as desired.
