Leon’s path through Raccoon City in Resident Evil Requiem is a nostalgic celebration for the tough action hero. After facing the T-Virus outbreak as a rookie cop many years ago, Leon has carried the trauma of those he couldn’t save, leading up to Umbrella’s decision to bomb the city to hide its mistakes.
Now, decades later, he’s older, stronger, and more focused than ever, determined to avoid past errors. To kick off this reunion, many familiar enemies have returned for another fight: the giant spider, Mr. X, and Plant 42 blocking the entrance to The Ark. Here’s how to defeat Plant 42.
How to Defeat Plant 42
Your fight against Plant 42 begins as you enter the abandoned Raccoon City orphanage and continue into the underground subway tunnels. Follow the main route, and it won’t be long before Leon has to cross a damaged train car hanging off a cliff.
There are no enemies in this section, so keep moving forward and thoroughly explore every area for supplies and collectibles. When Leon reaches the end of the suspended train, Plant 42 will burst through the windows, and one of its many heads will come out to attack.
Tip: Each plant head telegraphs its attacks by lunging forward, giving Leon just enough time to parry using the shoulder button. These attacks cause significant damage, so be prepared.
Try to block attacks until the plant head becomes vulnerable. When it opens up, quickly attack with a powerful weapon — you’ll only have a few seconds before it closes again. Once you manage to take it down, the train will collapse off the cliff, and Leon will leap to safety, cracking a cheesy joke.
As you descend, pick up any items along the way, since they’ll be useful later. Continue through the tunnels, eliminating emerging plant heads, and don’t ignore brief side detours where breakable crates and other supplies are hidden.
A supply box with ammo and a heavy metal cable left by the BSAA will be found, which Leon can use to rappel down into The Ark and reach Plant 42’s lair. Keep your flashlight on and keep moving forward.
The tunnels are filled with smaller tendrils that come to life and attack, just like on the train. Use your weapons and parries to survive in tight spaces, especially when plant heads open their wide mouths, letting you deal heavy damage with shotguns.
Tip: Plant heads will stay closed for a few seconds before attacking, so keep your weapon aimed and ready to fire.
Proceed through the tunnel system, destroying plant heads as they appear and checking around for breakable objects. Eventually, you’ll come to a clearing with The Ark’s entrance in the distance. You’ll face two tentacles blocking your way; aim for the plant heads protruding from them and shoot to destroy them. Be cautious—these tentacles can slam down on your position.
Once those are eliminated, jump off the ledge for the final confrontation. Immediately grab items from the nearby crate, as you won’t have time once Plant 42 emerges from the undergrowth.
Tactics for the final fight:
- Move in a continuous side-to-side pattern, resembling an infinity symbol, to avoid tentacle slams.
- Plant 42’s central head opens between tentacle attacks, offering a window for a big damage burst if you’re quick.
- Use Requiem or another high-damage weapon to maximize your hits. Keep firing until a large gas canister beneath Plant 42 opens, revealing flammable gas. Shoot it to finish the fight.
Pro tip: Requiem is the best weapon here if you have enough ammunition. It deals heavy damage, staggers Plant 42, and gives you chances to reload and prepare for the next attack.
Stay alert for the tentacle slams and attack when the big head is exposed. Strafe constantly in a side-to-side pattern to avoid getting hit, and focus on dealing damage quickly when the opportunity arises.
