In Phasmophobia, most players focus on surviving hunts, identifying ghosts, and avoiding being trapped in a room at a bad time. But between contracts, there’s a simple system of progression that many overlook: how your investigator looks.
Character customization allows you to stand out in the lobby, personalize your ghost hunter, and show off your efforts in the game. However, finding where everything is or understanding how it works can be confusing at first, since some options require a bit of effort to unlock. This guide covers everything you need to know to start customizing.
### How To Customize Your Character
To customize your character, go to the shop menu on the right side of the main lobby’s job board. This is your main hub for cosmetic changes. Inside the shop, you’ll find three main sections: character selection, outfit options, and your ID badge.
For character selection, you have 12 choices—six female characters and six male characters. Each character has a unique bio and name, giving them distinct personalities.
After choosing a character, you can add personal touches like changing hair color. There are also other cosmetic options, including jewelry and accessories.
Outfit customization offers even more choices. You can buy different clothing pieces, such as hats, jackets, shirts, and pants. You can mix and match these items to create your preferred style and choose different colors for them.
### How To Unlock Cosmetics
Unlocking cosmetics in Phasmophobia isn’t immediate; it requires some effort. Most items are bought directly from the shop, with prices usually starting around $5,000 to $10,000. That means you’ll need to spend time completing contracts and earning money to afford these upgrades.
Looking ahead, cosmetics won’t only be available through purchases. Upcoming events are expected to introduce new ways to unlock customization items by completing specific challenges associated with those events. These challenges will also apply to ID badges, giving you more ways to showcase your achievements beyond standard gameplay.
