In the game Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, the Tower of Rubiss serves as one of the most challenging dungeons players will encounter as they approach the end of the story. This location marks a crucial point in the adventure before confronting the Lord of the Underworld. Players will face an enemy they’ve encountered before, now transformed, providing a sense of closure after their earlier battles.
Before venturing into the Tower of Rubiss, players should be sure to obtain the Faerie Flute from Kol, a town located in the northeast section of the Underworld. This item is essential for freeing Rubiss, who has been captured by Zoma. Additionally, this is the spot where the Hero can acquire the game’s most powerful weapon, the Sword of Kings.

Location of Auroral Armor
The Tower of Rubiss is home to many valuable items, including the strongest armor available for the Hero. The Auroral Armor not only reduces damage from fire and ice but also heals the wearer while in motion. Players can also discover the Stormlord’s Sword, which has the ability to incinerate groups of enemies when used as an item during battles.

How to Reach the Soul of Baramos
Navigating the Tower of Rubiss
To navigate the Tower, players should start at the entrance and move north, then west, to find the hallway that leads to the southwest staircase, bringing them to the second floor. From there, head north and east until the treasure room is found, guarded by trap tiles. After collecting the treasures, take the northeast staircase to the third floor. Next, go southeast to reach the fourth floor and grab the Auroral Armor from the central room.
As you move through the Tower of Rubiss, keep an eye out for trap tiles marked by blue and orange arrows. A handy tip for navigating these tiles is to remember that moving north will align you with the orange arrow, while going south will align you with the blue arrow.

Return to the third floor and continue northwest to the rear of the tower. Here, the party can leap out of the window to land near the back entrance. Proceed by heading west and ascending several flights of stairs until you reach the fifth floor. Once there, head to the central room to confront the boss, the Soul of Baramos, in a rematch with the Archfiend boss from the original Dragon Quest 3.
Strategies for Defeating the Soul of Baramos
Exploiting Weaknesses to Ice and Lightning
To effectively take down the Soul of Baramos, it’s crucial to buff your party right from the beginning for a smoother fight. Utilizing a Sage to cast Accelerate allows your team to deal more damage before Baramos and his Ashdemons can counterattack, which diminishes their offensive capabilities. Area attack abilities like Sword Dance or Monster Pile-On are ideal for quickly eliminating the Ashdemons, allowing your party to concentrate on Baramos alone.
The Hero’s ability, Gigaslash, is particularly effective against the Ashdemons.
The Soul of Baramos is especially vulnerable to ice and lightning attacks, so using abilities like Lightning Slash and Kacrackle can inflict significant damage. After defeating the Soul of Baramos, players can use the Faerie Flute to free Rubiss. This will enable the party to move forward to the Sanctum to gather the necessary items to reach Zoma’s Citadel in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake.
