The cozy MMO Palia has just rolled out its most significant update since its debut in 2023, introducing a brand-new region called Elderwood. This area is packed with fresh collectibles, resources, creatures, and, naturally, quests. One of the early quests in the main Elderwood storyline sends players into the eerie, wooded zone to locate stables that will assist in navigating the expansive map. However, some of these stables are a bit elusive.
In Palia, stables serve as fast travel points, making it simpler to traverse various areas for a fee in gold. While the stables in Kilima Valley and Bahari Bay are already available, Elderwood introduces a new mechanic that requires players to visit each stable to unlock it. This area features significantly more vertical exploration than previous zones, enhancing the travel experience with enormous trees and mushrooms that create opportunities for gliding across vast sections of the map.
How to Begin the Through the Woods Quest
Nai’o Needs Assistance in Palia’s New Zone
After encountering Nai’o at the Central Stable in Elderwood, he shares his desire to expand the stable network but mentions he’s unable to track down all the original locations. With a map in hand, he explains that you need to interact with each stable to refresh its status. According to Caleri, the stables have lost their magical link to the map, and while Nai’o isn’t well-versed in magic or runes, he believes you’re capable of handling it.
Since the map operates on magic, it will automatically update with any stables you’ve already located, including the Central Stable. Each stable features a cryptic name that hints at its location, but with four primary zones to explore within the vast Elderwood, determining where to start your search for each stable is straightforward. The stables don’t need to be found in a specific order; while two are relatively easy to spot, I found the other two a bit more challenging during my hunt.
How to Locate Every Stable in the Elderwood
Total of Four New Stables Available
Five stables can be found in the Elderwood, with the Central Stable serving as the central hub where you’ll encounter Subira, Tamala, and various villagers who offer different quests. This is also the place to turn in relics for crafting exciting new items. Once you unlock the Central Stable, the remaining stables can be discovered on the extensive new map.
Where to Find the Pinecone Stable (Mitana Grove)
Although it’s somewhat hidden, the Pinecone Stable is quite easy to find, situated in F2 on the map near the northern edge of the new Elderwood region. To reach it, head north from the Central Stable and follow the path. After exiting the cavern system, scale the short cliff to your left and continue heading north. Interacting with the stable board will update your quest and unlock Mitana Grove as a fast travel point.
Where to Find the Tall Tree Stable (Deep Woods)
Moving south from either the Central Stables or Mitana Grove, you’ll discover the Tall Tree Stable in the Deep Woods region of Elderwood. I had to look around a bit as this stable is positioned midway up one of the massive trees, located in grid G8 on the map.
The Deep Woods area also features Bouncy Shrooms that propel you into the air, making it easier to find the stable.
Fortunately, these trees have large mushrooms growing from their sides, acting as platforms. Gliding towards the tree and climbing from one platform to the next is the simplest way to locate this stable.
Where to Find the Lakeside Stable (De Mer)
The Lakeside Stable is the easiest of Palia‘s new stables to spot, situated on the far west side of the map. In grid C8, you will find the stable at the southernmost dock in the De Mer Dock area of Okanaa Bog.
7 Things to Know Before Playing Palia
Players new to Palia will appreciate a few essential tips before diving fully into this cozy open-world MMO adventure.
The quickest route I discovered from the Central Stables is to take the southern path, progressing south and then west through the Red Blossom Cave. From there, you’ll easily spot the stable on the pier.
Where to Find the Rocky Cliff Stable (Mauvais Way)
The final stable, the Rocky Cliff Stable, took me some time to find because it’s nestled behind a large climbable tree. From the De Mer Dock, head north into the Okanna Bog and up towards Mauvais Way. This stable is located at the northern edge of the map in grid C3, inside the pavilion indicated on your map. As you approach, you’ll see a large tree root that you can climb to access the trunk of one of the towering Elderwood trees.
I found it easier to scale the small cliff to the left of the tree to access the platform where the stable is situated. Interacting with it will unlock the Mauvais Way Stable and update your quest to return to Nai’o. Once all the new stables in Palia have been unlocked, Nai’o will offer to teach you how to craft your own, allowing for easier travel across all zones.
