As you navigate the vast world of Aloft, you’ll come across a variety of treasures scattered across its numerous islands. However, not every reward is easily accessible. Some treasure chests, particularly those containing top-tier gear and rewards, require special keys to unlock.
In addition to treasure chests, you’ll encounter grand, decorative circular doors on various islands. These doors are also sealed and can lead to frescoes, knowledge stones, and valuable treasures. When exploring the skies in Aloft, make sure to keep an eye out for any hidden keys.
What Are Locked Keys Used For?
Aloft is currently in its early access phase. While some islands remain relatively consistent in location to prevent hindering your progress, the random nature of the map makes it difficult to pinpoint exact key locations. Instead, we’ll help you recognize these keys when you find them and explain their significance!
As you explore, it’s crucial to seize every opportunity to collect lost keys. You’ll first encounter them during the Forgotten Legacy quest, where you’ll need one to unlock critical sailing knowledge early in the game.
Familiarize yourself with ornate pedestals that have a glowing effect; these are where you’ll usually discover lost keys. Having them on hand is essential for accessing significant story elements and some of the best loot. You’ll often find keys on tabletops or at the base of various beacon markers around the islands. If you see something to collect near these sculptures, it may be a lost key!
Remember that lost keys are one-time-use items, meaning they vanish from your inventory once used. It’s wise to carry a few keys while you explore so you can quickly unlock treasures without wasting time backtracking.
Access Hidden Frescoes
Beyond the initial fresco on your starting island, most intricate frescoes that provide essential navigation knowledge are concealed behind locked doors. You’ll typically find these doors on the larger islands nestled within beautiful white stone structures.
These frescoes offer vital recipes that expand your sailing knowledge, aiding your exploration in the skies.
Unlock High-Level Treasure Chests
While scavenging across islands, you’ve likely collected various treasures. Pay attention to the different types of treasure chests hidden among ruins on some islands. The most common appearances are wooden chests, alongside stone variants, but soon, you’ll encounter locked treasure chests.
These chests often spawn near significant landmarks, like frescoes, behind previously unlocked hidden doors, and within substantial structures like ships or temples. Inside these locked chests, you’ll likely find some of the rarest loot, including gemstones, upgraded weapons, and tools with enhanced upgrade slots.
