Team Go Rocket is back in action, this time taking over the Crown Clash Event, which is set to take place later this month. During the Crown Clash: Taken Over Event, players can expect some exciting changes to their in-game experience, featuring unique bonuses and elements related to Pokémon Go’s infamous villains, Team Go Rocket.
This event will run for five days, starting on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 12 AM local time, and ending on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at 11:59 PM local time. Below, you’ll find all the important details about the Team Go Rocket takeover, including event highlights and bonuses you won’t want to miss.
How to Obtain Shadow Dialga in Pokémon Go
All players will gain access to new Special Research tasks for free at the beginning of this event. To complete this Special Research, you’ll need to tackle various Team Go Rocket-themed challenges, including capturing and purifying Shadow Pokémon, as well as defeating members of Team Go Rocket.
After finishing these tasks, you’ll receive a Super Rocket Radar, a crucial item for locating and battling Giovanni, the leader of Team Go Rocket. If you defeat Giovanni in battle, you’ll have the chance to catch Shadow Dialga, making its debut in Pokémon Go with this event.
This Special Research will be available to claim until June 3, 2025, at 9:59 PM local time.
Event Bonuses

During the Crown Clash: Taken Over Event, there will be three exciting bonuses all related to Team Go Rocket and Shadow Pokémon:
- Increased spawn rates of Team Go Rocket Grunts at PokéStops and from Team Go Rocket balloons.
- You can use Charged TMs to make a Shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack Frustration.
- A greater variance in the stats of Shadow Pokémon caught from both One-Star and Three-Star Shadow Raids.
Take advantage of the opportunity to help Shadow Pokémon forget Frustration during this event—this attack generally limits their effectiveness. After the event ends, you won’t be able to do this again until the next Team Go Rocket takeover.
Updates on Shadow Pokémon

With the Crown Clash: Taken Over Event, there will be changes to the Shadow Pokémon that Team Go Rocket uses in battles. Some Pokémon will be available as Shadow Pokémon for the first time through various Team Go Rocket Grunts.
These new Shadow Pokémon include:

- Shadow Amaura
- Shadow Tyrunt
Additionally, Team Go Rocket Leaders Arlo, Sabrina, and Cliff will be utilizing different Shadow Pokémon during their battles.
