Dungeons and treasure hunting have been a key part of RPGs for ages, and Tainted Grail: The Fall Of Avalon introduces some incredible locations in the second act of its story. The region around Cuanacht features a sprawling landscape cloaked in endless autumn, but some souls are trapped in an entirely different realm.
Deep beneath the lakes of Cuanacht lies the Abyss of Sagremor, filled with numerous quests. We’re here to guide you through reaching the Abyss of Sagremor and infiltrating the palace to free its cursed inhabitants.
How to Start the Throne of the Depths Quest
Northwest of Cuanacht, near a cemetery containing Beor’s family iron, there’s a small lake. Dive to the bottom to discover the Abyss of Sagremor. Once you enter, you’ll find yourself in an underground world cursed like no other.
Follow the twisting path to the bridge that leads to the castle. As you cross, you will encounter a fierce enemy – the Skeleton Archmage, who is determined to keep intruders at bay.
How to Defeat the Skeleton Archmage
This powerful foe commands great magic and summons allies to fight by its side. You can defeat them, but beware: after you eliminate the smaller skeleton knights, another Skeleton Archmage will join the fight.
The best approach is to use a Lifesteal spell with a one-handed weapon. Be sure to use your mana for healing to avoid falling off the bridge. The space is limited, so stay in the center and avoid the edges.
Wear down the Skeleton Archmage’s health, retreating if needed to the beginning of the bridge for more room. Once you take down the Skeleton Archmage, quickly enter the castle and talk to the Custodian.
How to Get an Audience with the Queen
The Custodian is friendly, but you will need to defeat him to obtain the keys to both of the queen’s sisters in the castle. Your only chance to lift the curse and find the tablet for the Menhir Rites quest lies in getting an audience with the queen.
However, the queen is currently unavailable. You need to help her sisters to garner her attention, which won’t be easy. Defeat the custodian (he won’t mind) and take the keys to begin your exploration of the castle.
Lost in the Liminal Quest
On the second floor of the castle, locate the eldest sister in the corridor behind the All-Mother statue. When you talk to her, you’ll find out that she was responsible for watching over the royal children.
Unfortunately, they have gone missing, and she needs your help to find them as she can’t leave the nursery. You’ll have to locate three of the missing sons and return them to her to complete this quest and gain her favor.
Harrowing of Hearts Quest
Next, you will discover a massive book in a locked chamber in the banquet hall. Interacting with it transports you to Claire’s hideaway, where you can enter her dreams and see the love stories she narrates in her letters to her lost love.
In this dream, you must defeat three different versions of her lover while Claire recounts her tales. After taking them down, you can return to the castle and speak with Claire for some insight.
How to Defeat Queen Sagremor
Once you’ve assisted both sisters, the Custodian will reappear and present you with the key to the chapel and the throne room. The queen has noticed your efforts and is ready to meet with you.
Proceed through the doors at the end of the hall that lead to the chapel. Upon arrival, a curious fungus will want to converse with you. You can either strike it down or listen to what it has to say, as it offers you an important choice.
While you don’t have to agree at this moment, consider taking a piece of the Mycelium to reflect on your options.
To summarize, when the king and queen pass away, the Abyss of Sagremor will cease to exist, leading to the death of everyone inside. However, with some Mycelium in the king’s system, they could potentially live on as a fungal hive mind.
When you’re ready, proceed into the next room and use the lift to sink down to the throne room. Face the infamously stubborn litch queen, who refuses to yield despite your efforts.
What Should You Do With King Sagremor and the Mycelium?
After the queen’s defeat, talk to King Sagremor to obtain the broken tablet necessary for the Menhir Rite. You will then have the option to infect him with the Mycelium before you leave.
Doing this will eventually make him and everyone in the Abyss of Sagremor part of the hive mind, making them impervious to damage but preventing you from collecting valuable loot. However, you will unlock an achievement/trophy for allowing the fungus to spread.
The choice is yours: decide whether you want the inhabitants of the Abyss of Sagremor to find peace or continue living in a state of fungal bliss. Either way, the people in the Abyss will have to be dealt with, and you can explore a bit before leaving with the tablet you came for.
