In The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, you’ll discover many interesting and unique items, but most are leveled. This means that if you acquire them at a low level, their stats will also be low, as they adjust to your character’s level. However, Daedric Artifacts are an exception.
Unlike regular leveled items, Daedric Artifacts maintain their optimal power regardless of your level. While you may need to reach a specific level to obtain certain artifacts, most are accessible during the mid-game. Knowing where to find these quests is essential if you’re eager to equip some of the top-tier gear in the game.
Starting the Hircine Quest
To embark on the Hircine quest, you need to be a minimum of level 17. Additionally, you’ll require either a wolf or a bear pelt to offer at the shrine to initiate the quest.
Location of Hircine’s Shrine
Hircine’s Shrine is situated south-southeast of the Imperial City within a thick forest. On the map, it’s west of the ‘N’ in ‘The Nibenay Valley’. Be cautious as this area is populated with leveled wildlife and bandits may appear along the roads.
Obtaining Wolf or Bear Pelts
You can acquire wolf and bear pelts by hunting and looting these animals, which can be found throughout the game world and remain common enemies even at level 30. Alternatively, you can purchase pelts from General Goods traders, like the Three Brothers Trade Goods in the Imperial City Market District.
If the merchant isn’t selling the pelts, step outside their shop and wait for three in-game days to refresh their stock.
Completing the Hircine Quest
Once you’ve gathered everything you need, head to the shrine and interact with it. You will be able to offer either the bear or wolf pelt if you have both. Hircine will then send you on a mission: you must hunt a Unicorn in Harcane Grove and retrieve its Unicorn Horn.
The grove is located southeast of the shrine. Unlike many Daedric quests that lead you to dungeons, this one takes you to an open area in the forest.
When you reach the grove, you’ll find the Unicorn protected by three Minotaurs of the Grove. These enemies are leveled and may wield weapons. To make the encounter easier, consider sneaking up on them and defeating them one at a time.
Fighting the Unicorn can be challenging, as it is a level 17 enemy with 50 percent resistance to magic and 20 percent reflect damage. Additionally, it is immune to normal weapons, poison, paralysis, and diseases. Its attacks deal significant damage, hitting with around 45 points.
Acquiring the Saviour’s Hide
After defeating the Unicorn, make sure to loot the Unicorn horn and return to the shrine. While holding the horn in your inventory, interact with the shrine to complete the quest. Hircine will reward you with the Daedric artifact known as Saviour’s Hide.
The Saviour’s Hide is a piece of light armor that provides 25 resistance to magic. This armor is particularly useful when battling spellcasters, as it reduces the effectiveness of their magic against you.
