In the world of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, the Hero of Kvatch faces a daunting challenge: locating the enigmatic and furtive cult known as the Mythic Dawn. This task is no small feat, as their hideout is well-guarded and obscured from all but their most devoted followers.

Fortunately, as the cult grows in infamy and size, their secrets become harder to keep. Following the assassination of Emperor Uriel Septim and their attempts to eliminate the Blades, you can pave the way to their downfall. Simply let them fall into your trap.

How to Begin the Quest for the Mythic Dawn’s Hideout

To start your investigation into those responsible for the murder of Uriel Septim and his family, ensure you’ve completed all necessary quests in the main storyline:

Deliver the Amulet

Take the Amulet of Kings to Jauffre at Weynon Priory.

Find the Heir

Seek revenge for Kvatch and track down the Emperor’s son.

Weynon Priory

Guide the Emperor’s son to Jauffre, and then escort them both to Cloud Ruler Temple.

After the Mythic Dawn takes hold of Weynon Priory, speak with Jauffre, who will direct you to the Imperial City, marking the official start of your quest.

Head to the Elven Gardens District in the Imperial City. Luther’s Boarding House sits at the center of the district. When you enter, you’ll notice a man at the bar. Before approaching, take a seat on the stool located to his right.

Engage with Baurus but don’t mention Martin or the Amulet of Kings just yet. Wait until the man in the corner, Astav Wirich, stands up and follows Baurus. Then, follow him downstairs into the boarding house’s basement.

Once Baurus and Astav reach the bottom of the stairs, Astav will reveal himself as a Mythic Dawn assassin. Protect Baurus and eliminate Astav. After defeating him, check his body and take the first volume of the Mythic Dawn Commentaries.

Don’t attack Astav before he targets Baurus. If you strike first without him drawing his weapons, it will be counted as an assault, resulting in a bounty.

Baurus will then engage you in conversation. Explore all of his dialogue options until he mentions your next destination: Tar-Meena.

If you’ve been following the Mages’ Guild questline, you should already know where to find Tar-Meena. She can be found in the Mystic Archives during daytime and in the Mages’ Quarters during the evening and night.

Talk to Tar-Meena about the Mythic Dawn. She’ll inform you that you need all four volumes of the commentaries to locate their hidden lair. Tar-Meena will gift you the second volume; however, the third and fourth volumes’ locations remain unknown. On her advice, head to the First Edition bookstore in the Markets District.

While you’re in the district, it’s a good idea to stock up on supplies and repair any damaged items.

Speak with the bookkeeper, Phintias, to learn he has the third volume but has already sold it. Here are your options:

Wait for Gwinas

Approach Gwinas and tell him the Mythic Dawn killed the Emperor. He’ll give you the book and meeting note at no cost.

Steal the Book

You could steal it from the hard-level chest behind the counter, but you still need Gwinas’s note.

Buy the Book

Convince Phintias to sell it to you for 100 gold by raising his disposition towards you to 80+. You will still require the note from Gwinas.

Kill Gwinas

You might consider eliminating Gwinas (and probably Phintias) to loot the book and note from his corpse.

Of all these options, simply talking to Gwinas is the easiest and the safest choice.

Return to Baurus at the Boarding House and inform him about the note from Gwinas. After you’ve gone through his dialogue options, follow Baurus to the sewer entrance, which is located across the street in a small bunker-like structure in the northeast corner of the alley opening near the well.

Inside the sewers, you will need to follow Baurus through the winding tunnels. Be prepared to defend against rats, mudcrabs, and goblins while trying to keep Baurus’s health intact.

When you reach the meeting location, you’ll have two options:

  1. Let Baurus handle the meeting while you provide cover from above.
  2. Take charge of the meeting yourself and instruct Baurus to cover you.

If you opt for the second choice, you must insist to Baurus twice that you want to lead the meeting.

If you allow Baurus to manage the meeting, stealth will be crucial. To prolong their conversation, you should:

  • Cast a Chameleon or similar invisibility spell upon entering.
  • Sneak into the main chamber.
  • Immediately drop down to the right of the bridge when the opportunity arises.
  • Continue hiding behind the pillar of the bridge and observe.

When the Mythic Dawn leader recognizes Baurus, the three will attack. Defeat them all.

Baurus’s essential status will end during this confrontation. He can die, so if you wish for him to survive and join the Blades at Cloud Ruler Temple, you should either have a healing spell ready or put yourself in harm’s way to shield him.

If you manage the conversation yourself, you won’t advance much further than Baurus. The Mythic Dawn on the upper floor will eventually spot him, and you’ll still need to engage in battle. This method often yields a better chance for Baurus’s survival, as you can use your character to block the staircase and keep the boss from reaching him.

After all Mythic Dawn members are defeated, loot Raven Camoran’s body for the fourth and final copy of the Mythic Dawn Commentaries.

To exit the sewers afterward, head through the door beneath the bridge. Follow the trail of bodies you left to navigate back to the city.

If you prefer, you can also use the key dropped by Raven Camoran (make sure to collect it, as it’s the only way to access the sewers). However, be prepared to either have a high-level unlocking spell or several lockpicks, as you’ll be exiting through the often-challenging locked doors of individual citizens’ basements.

How to Solve the Puzzle of the Mythic Dawn Books

Each volume of the Mythic Dawn books provides clues to the location of their hideout. However, if solving puzzles isn’t your style, you can head back to the Arcane University and talk to Tar-Meena for assistance.

If you’re feeling confident, sneak a peek at the solution below:

The solution can be found in the red letters that begin each paragraph of the books.

When combined, they spell out:

GREEN EMPEROR WAY WHERE TOWER TOUCHES MIDDAY SUN

Once you uncover the riddle, head to the Imperial Palace and make a right (south). Visit the Tomb of Prince Camarill, looking up as you wait for the sun to touch the White-Gold Tower between 11:38 AM and 12:30 PM.

You can technically interact with the tomb before this window, but you won’t earn the related achievement, Located the Shrine of Dagon, unless you do so during the correct time frame.

As the sun drops behind the tower, check the tomb front to see a glowing sun symbol and a map of Cyrodiil etched into the stone. Interact with the map to note down the location.

With the Mythic Dawn’s secret lair now revealed, it’s time to confront them at their hideout.
