The Nightshadow Batterfly is a rare insect in Palia that only appears at night in the Elderwood forests. This elusive little creature can be tricky to spot but is essential for certain quests, crafting relics, and fulfilling weekly gift requests.
Even if you don’t need them for a specific task, these bugs are stunning, and catching a Star Quality version would make a beautiful decoration for your home! If you’re having a hard time finding this bug, this guide will show you where to look and how to catch it.
How to Find the Nightshadow Batterfly
The Nightshadow Batterfly is a striking purple insect that only appears at night, specifically between 6 PM and 3 AM (in-game time).
You can find them in any forested area, but the best spots are Jenesse Pass and Deep Woods (look on the mushroom platforms that are attached to the giant trees).
They often appear alongside Blushing Batterflies, Cave Piksii, and Veil Piksii. Keep in mind that under certain lighting, Cave Piksii can be mistaken for the Nightshadow Batterfly.
Be aware that some Nightshadow Batterflies might carry an infection. The dark purple aura of the infected essence can make it hard to discern which bug it is until you pick it up.
How to Catch the Nightshadow Batterfly
Once you spot a Nightshadow Batterfly, they are quite easy to catch, as they only need regular or sneaky smoke bombs. However, they may become aware of your presence, so consider using a smoke candle to mask your approach.
If you’re aiming to catch an infected Nightshadow Batterfly, you will need to use Elderwood Smoke Bombs. These are slightly less effective than standard smoke bombs, so it may take several attempts to stun the batterfly.
You can also occasionally receive a Nightshadow Batterfly from a Bug Catching Mystery Bag, which is a reward for completing quests, making offerings at an Umbraan Shrine, or purchasing from Subira’s shop at the Elderwood Central Stables.
