Norse: Oath of Blood is a story-driven turn-based strategy game set in a world of vengeful Vikings and bloodstained lands. As you build a new community and train fighters to avenge your father, you’ll encounter interesting characters and fierce enemies.
Your first major boss fight happens during the mission called The Woodcarver’s Chisel. The battle kicks off with a tough fight and concludes when you defeat the powerful Frida Vargdottir. Here’s what you need to know to complete this mission and defeat the warrior woman.
The Woodcarver’s Chisel mission is an Oathsworn-level task, so your units should all be at least at Oathsworn rank to succeed. You might want to focus on units suited for ranged combat or tactics, as they can be more effective against Frida.
Frida’s attacks involve large, heavy swings hitting a three-tile area around her and powerful crashing blows to units nearby. She also executes an L-shaped move, crashing through anything in her path and hitting the last person in line with a big strike.
A good strategy is to bring a mix of your strongest fighters—like Gunnar, Arn, and Sigrid—as well as some ranged units like Hersir and Bogmathr, to keep your distance. Gunnar, dedicated to Odin, has increased Reflex, giving him a better chance to dodge attacks. His abilities include Strength and Aggression, which deal heavy damage and inflict Vulnerable, increasing damage taken by enemies.
Sigrid, devoted to Skadi, can perform Alert attacks that cripple enemies, preventing them from moving and reducing their Reflex to zero. Arn can use Hew to deal damage and armor break in a three-tile area, especially effective after Frida is Vulnerable. Hersir is a ranged unit with War Cry, boosting nearby allies’ damage, and Warden, which can be used when guarding. Bogmathr, a ranged marksman worshiping Skadi, can add critical hits and increase attack range with her Far-Seeing ability.
The fight begins when your units land on the shore, eager for a feast. Along the path, you can loot boxes and barrels. A crossroad leads to the Runestone—you should activate it before crossing the wooden bridge.
Once you cross, you’ll face a wooden carving of a woman and find yourself ambushed by enemies. There are eight low-HP enemies and a high-HP leader, with their health depending on your chosen difficulty.
Focus your strongest units on taking out the leader, while weaker or ranged units handle the others. Keep in mind that all units will go on Alert during the fight, so avoid crossing their line of sight to prevent triggering attacks of opportunity. Use Guard and Guardian abilities to protect your team, and keep your archers and Hersir using their ranged skills. Reinforcements may arrive with two additional enemy units, but they typically have lower health.
To succeed, coordinate your attacks, exploit debuffs like Crippled, Dazed, and Knockback, and employ critical hits from your highest damage attacks. Mobility and sustained distance fighting are key because Frida’s moves are unpredictable.
Before facing her, you’ll meet Olaf, your new Woodsman, who thanks you for rescuing him from Frida. Your final task is to defeat Frida by continuously striking her from a distance, applying debuffs, and using every attack possible. Her high health means you’ll need to keep maneuvering and striking strategically, timing your debuffs and critical hits effectively.
Loot everything you can—barrels, boxes, and fallen enemies—to gain riches, wadmal, provisions, oil, wood, Frida’s club, knucklebone dice, and the blueprint for the Runeworn Mail. If difficulty feels too challenging, you can adjust it in the game settings through the menu.
