One of the most highly anticipated games of the year is launching in just a few days, and early reviews indicate it will be a standout title.
Resident Evil Requiem, the newest installment in the legendary Resident Evil franchise, drops on February 27, 2026, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Critics are already sharing glowing feedback, and it seems Capcom has delivered another successful entry. On OpenCritic, the game holds an average score of 88, with 96% of critics recommending it.
Eurogamer’s Matt Walles, who awarded the game a perfect 5 out of 5, lauded it as “a masterful blend of intense horror and a nostalgic victory lap for the series.” IGN’s Tristan Ogilvie rated it 9 out of 10, praising it for combining “two distinct styles of survival horror into an infectious new mix.”
On our sister site, ComingSoon, Tyler Treese also ranks it among the best in the franchise, giving it a 9.5 out of 10. He notes, “Leon’s latest adventure features some of the franchise’s coolest moments, some terrific scares with Grace’s sections, and a compelling story that opens exciting new possibilities for the series. Resident Evil has never been more exciting.”
Our reviewer, Shaan Joshi, scored it a 9 out of 10 and echoed much of the praise, calling it “a nonstop feast of heart-pounding action and survival horror at its finest.” Additionally, Giant Bomb’s Dan Ryckert gave it 4.5 out of 5, describing the game as “an excellent culmination of everything Capcom has learned over three decades and a tantalizing glimpse into the franchise’s future.”
Resident Evil Requiem marks the ninth mainline entry in the series and is the first to feature Leon S. Kennedy since 2012’s Resident Evil 6.
