Warriors: Abyss – A Thrilling Roguelike Adventure
Warriors: Abyss made a strong entrance by launching on the same day it was revealed, delivering an unexpectedly engaging roguelike experience. With a remarkable roster of 100 Heroes to pick from, players are bound to find a character that suits their style as they battle through waves of monsters, bringing about intense and exhilarating gameplay.
With various systems and mechanics in place, navigating the game’s functions can be a bit overwhelming. It might be tough to grasp how certain features work, like boosting your Hero’s Maximum Health. However, it’s simpler than it appears, allowing you to power up and fight your way through challenges!
How to Boost Your Maximum Health
In Warriors: Abyss, there are just a few methods available to increase your Max Health, which is crucial for surviving fierce battles or taking down tough bosses. While each Hero has unique Attack and Defense stats, they all share the same base Max Health, regardless of their Dynasty or size. This can be a bit confusing initially, but it becomes clearer once you understand how to raise that health limit during gameplay.
There are three primary ways to increase your Hero’s Maximum Health; two of these methods are temporary and apply only to the current run, while the third method provides a permanent boost. Let’s discuss the two temporary options first before moving on to the permanent enhancement.
Peach Trees
Peach Trees represent the most frequent opportunity to raise your Maximum Health during a run. Although they may not appear in every session, there’s a chance you’ll find one after completing a Phase, indicated by a Peach icon next to one of the Portals.
By activating that Portal and entering the next area, you might discover a solo Peach Tree in the room. Simply approach the tree and select the "Eat" option for your Hero to consume a Peach, which will improve your Max Health and replenish a portion of your health bar if it’s running low.
Keep in mind that this health increase remains until you either meet an untimely fate or finish the run, at which point it resets. Nonetheless, these Peach Trees can be lifesavers and should be utilized whenever you encounter them!
Treasure
Another way to enhance your Maximum Health is by collecting Treasures after defeating bosses and opening the giant Chest near the exit. You’ll be given the choice between three randomized Treasures, but can only select one.
Among these treasures, the Ieyasu Tokugawa’s Golden Armor is a standout choice and grants your Hero a 30% increase in Maximum Health for the duration of your run, which unfortunately resets if you die or finish the game. With 24 different Treasures available, the chance of snagging this one isn’t overly high, but if it comes up, it’s wise to grab it unless another option offers a significantly better advantage for your current gameplay.
Forming Bonds with Heroes
The final method for increasing your Maximum Health in Warriors: Abyss involves Forming Bonds with Heroes, which is particularly advantageous as it provides a lasting benefit across all characters in the game. As you progress, you’ll collect Karma Embers that can be used to unlock Heroes via the Hall of Bonded Souls.
While acquiring new characters is exciting in itself, the real perk comes from the permanent stat enhancements that apply universally to every Hero’s Health, Attack, or Defense. For instance, forming a bond with Xu Zhu grants every Hero a universal +2 Health boost, making this feature essential for future runs.
To discover what a Hero’s Unlock Effect entails, head over to the Hall of Bonded Souls in the main menu and select a locked Hero. Beneath their model, a table will indicate the ‘Unlock Effect,’ highlighting what stats they influence and by how much. This feature lets you prioritize certain Heroes, ultimately making your subsequent gameplay sessions more manageable and enjoyable!
