A new PlayStation 5 Pro update is on the horizon for next month, promising significant improvements in game visuals. This update will introduce major upgrades to how games are rendered, potentially elevating the gaming experience.
The upcoming update will focus on enhancing the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), technology integrated into the console to upscale images and improve resolution across more than 50 supported titles. This new version of PSSR has been under development for some time and takes an entirely different approach compared to previous iterations.
Resident Evil Requiem, launching today, will be the first game to utilize the upgraded PSSR. It aims to maintain both smooth frame rates and high image quality, offering players a sharper, more detailed visual experience. Capcom’s Masaru Ijuin mentioned that this update allows the company to better capture intricate textures and details, which are usually challenging to upscale due to their complexity. The result is heightened visual fidelity and a more immersive gameplay feel that players can appreciate.
Players will have the option to toggle the enhanced PSSR feature on or off in the system’s settings menu. This can be found under “Video Output” within the “Screen and Video” settings, giving users control over their visual experience.
