In Heartopia, you start your fishing journey by unlocking the fishing rod during the tutorial. Learning this skill is key to filling your game journal and earning special rewards over time. Completeing your fish catalog will take some time, but don’t worry—we’re here to help you find even the hardest catches. From tiny fish to huge ones, we’ve got tips to help you reel them all in. Keep reading to discover everything you need to know about fishing and when to find the fish you’re missing to finish your collection.
How to Catch Fish
Once you unlock the fishing rod in the tutorial, the entire island is open for exploration to find the best fishing spots. When you see a fish shadow in the water, equip your rod and tap or click to cast your line. If you’re struggling to get the fish to bite, try scattering bait along the shoreline to attract them. You can also hold down the fishing input (or click and hold on PC) to cast more precisely and get closer to the fish.
When a fish bites, hold the input to reel it in. Watch your line — it will change color from white to yellow to red. If it starts blinking, give it some slack, then reel it in again. Keep repeating this process until the fish reaches the shore and you can collect it.
Tip: There are three types of water areas to fish in, and you can rent a boat from the Fishing Village to venture into deeper waters for more variety.
