While organizing over 3,000 books in Librarian: Tidy Up The Arcane Library, you might notice four locked chests on the second floor. When you approach them, you’ll be told a key is needed to open each one, but the game doesn’t specify where to find these keys.

In fact, you could play through the entire game without ever opening these chests, since only one key is obtained from tidying, and you don’t actually need any of the items inside to complete the game. However, what’s inside can help you finish faster, so if you’re interested, it’s worth focusing on finding the keys early.

All Locked Chest Key Locations

Since there are four chests—two on each side of the library—you’ll need four matching keys. The first key is likely hidden underneath a pile of books on the first floor, but you’ll only find one this way. The other three keys are hidden in specific spots, with two requiring the High Jump ability to reach.

All keys and chests are marked with matching shapes, so once you get a key, look for the chest with the same symbol. They won’t work on any other chests. Here’s a detailed list of where every key can be found:

Crimson Octagon Key: High Jump Permit This is the easiest to miss. At game start, look for a podium on the middle of the stairs, with the University of Celesthall crest above it. Below the crest, on the wall, you’ll see a key hanging.
Golden Diamond Key: Large Carrying Capacity Potion After unlocking High Jump, go to the stairs’ railing on the left side while facing the library. Jump onto the railing, look down into the white vase sitting there, and the key is inside.
Azure Star Key: Small Carrying Capacity Potion Once you have the High Jump, reach the top of shelves 20 and 21 on the second-floor shelves at the end of the library. The key is near the University crest on top of these shelves.
Star Azure Key: Carry Capacity +2 Also after unlocking High Jump, the key is located inside a vase on the ledge of the second floor, near shelves 20 and 21. Stand on the podium, face the library, and jump onto the railing to look down into the vase.

Important note: To access the Golden Diamond and Azure Star Keys, you must first unlock the High Jump ability. Without it, these areas are unreachable.

Unlocking Minor Magic

You’ve likely been increasing your Major Magic levels and wondering why the Minor Arcana remains locked. The truth is, the Minor Magic items are inside the four chests. Unlike Major Magic, Minor Magic offers mobility upgrades and permanent enhancements rather than temporary spells.

Unlocking all four Minor Magic abilities will also unlock the “Life Hack Wizard” achievement. If you’re aiming for the “Anti-Magic Master” achievement, note that Minor Magic doesn’t count as magic for that challenge, so feel free to use these abilities.

Most players who challenge themselves to beat the game in under three hours will find Minor Magic especially helpful. They’re also beneficial for players seeking maximum efficiency or speedruns.

Minor Magic Description
High Jump Permanently gain the ability to jump higher, allowing you to reach the second floor without stairs—great for speedruns and accessing key spots.
Carry Capacity +3 Increase your book-carry limit to 13 books.
Carry Capacity +2 Adds two more slots, which, combined with the larger capacity potion, lets you carry up to 15 books.
Run Enables running inside the library to speed up shelving. Useful for time-challenged playthroughs.

While the game has no time limit, these abilities make completing the game more efficient.
