Los Angeles: Singer and actress Selena Gomez revealed that her mother played matchmaker for her and her fiancé, Benny Blanco. Selena’s mom, Mandy Teefey, took the initiative in bringing the couple together.
In a joint interview with ‘People’ magazine, Selena and Benny shared their first public conversation as a couple, providing fascinating details about their relationship.
During their debut interview with ‘Interview’ magazine, the couple reminisced about how Mandy first introduced them. Selena disclosed that she met Benny when she was approximately 16 or 17 years old, and they became engaged in December 2024.
According to ‘People’, Benny elaborated on this matchmaking moment, explaining that Selena’s mother organized a meeting to discuss music. “We first had music come out in 2013 or something,” he noted. “Her mom set up that initial meeting between us when I was just starting to get popular and she was not yet a singer.”
For eight years, Mandy, along with Selena’s stepfather Brian Teefey, played a significant role in managing Selena’s career as she gained recognition on the Disney Channel.
Benny shared his admiration for Selena’s early work, recalling, “When she began releasing music, I was really into it. I think she was the original ‘sad girl.’ While the others were making upbeat tunes, she was singing, ‘I just want to look good for you.’ (Laughs) I was really drawn to that.”
Selena later expressed how her feelings for Benny blossomed while they collaborated on a song. “It was so straightforward,” said the star of ‘Emilia Perez.’ “We got into the studio to work on a track, and we just talked. It was that easy for me. I had feelings for him even before he realized he liked me.”
