Turkey Bans Advertising on Twitter and Pinterest

Turkey bans advertising on Twitter, Periscope, and Pinterest under the new social media law. The news is confirmed by Turkish Information and Communication Technologies Authorities on Tuesday.

The law bans online advertising on Twitter and Pinterest because the social media companies don’t have an official local representative in Turkey. On Monday, Facebook appointed a local social media representative in Turkey to secure themselves to face an advertising ban.

Joining Facebook, YouTube also announced a month ago that it had appointed a local representative.

The social media law further restricts Periscope, a child company of Twitter. Digital phablet’s correspondent reached to Periscope, but the company did not immediately reply.

The newly passed social media law allows Turkish authorities to take down any content they want and block access to certain sites.
