Google recently announced that starting May 7th, FAQ rich results will no longer appear in Google Search. Additionally, Google will cease reporting on FAQ structured data in Search Console and associated APIs in the coming months.
This update was highlighted on the FAQ structured data documentation page, noting three key points: first, FAQ rich results will stop showing in Google Search by May 7, 2026; second, the visibility and reporting features in Search Console related to FAQs will be discontinued in June 2026; third, support for FAQ rich results in the Search Console API will be removed in August 2026 to give time for site owners to adjust their API integrations.
Google introduced FAQ rich results back in 2019, and it’s common for Google over time to phase out support for certain rich results. In 2023, Google signaled it would show FAQ snippets less frequently, and now they are being fully deprecated.
A representative from Google clarified that FAQ structured data was primarily used for a limited group of site types. For the majority of sites, this change isn’t expected to impact search results. If a site used FAQ markup but was not among those specifically documented types, it was already being ignored in search. Content creators who used the markup for search purposes can now remove it if desired, without concern for adverse effects.
Some notable industry commentary included confirmation from John Mueller that since the feature was dedicated to a narrow segment of sites, its removal wouldn’t significantly impact most users. Also, recent observations confirmed that FAQ snippets have already disappeared from search engine results pages, especially for government and health websites that previously displayed them, as evidenced by recent snapshots from SEO tools and search result comparisons.
