The inaugural initiative of the newly established Global Center for Medical Technology Innovation and Exchange was officially inaugurated in Shanghai, spearheaded by Boston Scientific in partnership with Danaher and Siemens Healthineers.
The A3 International Medical Technology Innovation Center was unveiled yesterday in Shanghai’s Eastern Hub International Business Cooperation Zone. Its goal is to develop integrated treatment strategies for cardiovascular conditions, cancers, and neurological disorders.
Biomedicine is among three primary industries prioritized for rapid growth in Shanghai. The Eastern Hub International Business Cooperation Zone offers multiple functionalities, including serving as a comprehensive bonded area, a customs supervision zone, and a restricted port zone.
International staff can remain in the zone without a visa for up to 30 days, with options for extension, promoting the integration of global biotech firms into an open and collaborative innovation environment.
As of the end of last year, approximately 204 medical device companies, including 61 of the top 100 global firms, have established operations within the zone. The zone’s annual import value of medical instruments and devices makes up nearly half of the national total, highlighting its complete industrial ecosystem and extensive resource base.
During the opening event, Boston Scientific also introduced its Asia-Pacific Brain-Computer Interface Training and Innovation Lab and formalized partnership agreements with Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University, the Mayo Clinic, and the Shanghai Institute for Physical Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.
