GE Healthcare announced that its Beijing manufacturing facility has activated its first fully automated lights-out production line for computed tomography detectors. This development marks a major step forward in autonomous manufacturing, significantly enhancing operational efficiency.
The new production line features a combination of robotic systems, artificial intelligence, and Internet of Things technology. Unveiled during a celebration of the plant’s 35th anniversary on April 21, it supports seamless, smart information exchange while dramatically reducing errors associated with manual quality control.
Lights-out factories are highly automated facilities capable of operating around the clock without human oversight, using intelligent equipment to ensure continuous production.
The Beijing plant focuses on manufacturing critical medical device components, utilizing advanced technology. According to Feng Jian, the plant’s general manager, over 60% of its CT devices are exported to international markets.
Looking ahead, the facility plans to implement even more sophisticated technologies, including embodied AI and mobile robots, to further optimize operations.
On the same day, the plant reached a milestone by dispatching its 200,000th imaging device to overseas customers.
