Since the announcement of the PS5 Pro, the demand for the PS5 Disc Drive has surged, leading online retailers to rapidly sell out of this highly sought-after accessory.

Many gamers are eager to ensure they can access physical media on their next-gen consoles, and they are quickly snapping up the external disc drive needed for the new PS5 Pro.

Earlier this week, Sony officially unveiled the PS5 Pro, revealing that the console will not come with a built-in disc drive.

This means players who wish to use physical discs must purchase the external PS5 Disc Drive, triggering a buying frenzy among enthusiasts.

As of now, the PS5 Disc Drive has soared to the #16 spot on Amazon’s best-selling video game products list.

Best Buy, one of the leading online retailers, has already run out of stock for the drive, making it unavailable for order. While gamers can still find it on other prominent websites such as Target, Walmart, and PlayStation Direct, these inventories are also expected to sell out quickly.

The rush for the PS5 Disc Drive began when Sony introduced the PS5 Slim in late 2023, which also requires an external drive for compatibility with physical games. Unlike the original PS5, which came in both disc and digital editions, the Slim version does not offer an option for a built-in disc drive.
