China Officially Releases 5G amid Huawei Ban

It is now official, after a long wait, China has named the first companies that will get 5G licenses for their commercial use on Thursday.

This announcement comes from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s telecom authority, it states that Huawei is reigning the Chinese telecom region by 30% of the world’s telecommunication revenues in 2019, despite facing some tensions in the west after potential security concerns.

The green signal comes months before the long-anticipated due date for China’s 5G licenses launch, which was previously said would happen at the end of 2019. The release of 5G by China clearly shows that Beijing really wants to be ahead in the race of global 5G industry where South Korea, as well as the United States, have started deploying 5G for commercial use.

South Korea was the first country in the world to launch 5G.

The MIIT of China has approved four network operators from China that will be able to run 5G

  • China Telecom
  • China Mobile
  • China Unicom
  • China Broadcasting Network

Other major players in 5G that includes smartphone manufacturers, network equipment makers, app creators and chip makers are also gearing up to adapt the new technology.

Previously, Xiaomi, Oppo, Huawei and Samsung have announced that they will be adding 5G support to their upcoming smartphones.

Meanwhile, Chinese tech giant company, Tencent has been silently testing their cloud-based games (Just like Google Stadia) with Intel and iQiyi that has joined hands with China Unicom to produce virtual reality products, showcasing just two, while many in pipeline, applications that will be relying on 5G enabled high bandwidth and low latency to work.
