Meta is set to challenge CapCut with its new video editing application, Edits, which is now available globally for both Android and iOS users.

Edits: A Free App Packed with Impressive Features

The Edits app, which is entirely free, boasts an unexpectedly rich array of features. Users can create videos of up to 10 minutes and dive into editing right away. The app conveniently organizes all your drafts and videos in one place, making it easy to manage multiple projects at once.

Once you’re finished editing, you can share your videos to Instagram and other social media platforms in 1080p resolution. Plus, there’s a nice bonus: no watermark appears on any of your creations.

While editing, the app allows for single-frame precision. You can adjust various settings including resolution, frame rate, dynamic range, and improved flash and zoom controls.

The integration of AI technology enhances your images, and the app includes features like green screen options and video overlays.

For those who like personalization, Edits offers a variety of fonts, sound effects, video filters, and stickers. Users can enhance audio tracks and eliminate background noise. Automatically generated captions can also be modified for style and accuracy.

Additional features comprise a live insights dashboard that provides a detailed analysis of follower engagement and the dynamics influencing it.

Overall, the Edits app presents a polished experience, making it an excellent choice for content creators and casual users alike who want to craft videos.

Meta has indicated plans to expand the app’s capabilities in the future, including features like keyframes, collaborative tools, and more customization options.

A Bold Move Against ByteDance and CapCut

Originally revealed in January 2025, the Edits app is now making waves amidst ongoing developments in the tech landscape.

Interestingly, just a few days before Edits was announced, both CapCut and the well-known social platform TikTok were temporarily taken down from the App Store. The long-term future for both apps remains uncertain as ByteDance seeks an American buyer.

Given these circumstances, it’s a strategic move for Meta to launch Edits. The app not only offers Instagram enthusiasts a quick way to edit and post videos but also positions itself attractively for TikTok and YouTube Shorts users looking for alternative editing solutions. Should ByteDance’s situation lead to further complications, Meta stands to benefit by gaining new users.

A significant advantage of Edits is the watermark-free video exports, a feature that CapCut requires a $9.99 monthly subscription to access.

If Edits or CapCut isn’t quite what you’re after, consider checking out these outstanding video editing apps.
