Recent analysis by Ming Chi-Kuo has revealed that the demand for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max is not meeting Apple’s expectations. Conversely, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are showing stronger sales compared to their predecessors from last year.

Kuo’s review, conducted over the weekend, took into account shipping times from Apple’s official site along with insights from a survey of the supply chain. His findings indicate that consumers are more inclined to purchase the standard iPhones this year, particularly the larger models.

In total, the iPhone 16 series achieved approximately 37 million unit sales, which reflects a decrease of about 12.7% compared to the opening weekend sales of the iPhone 15 series. While the iPhone 16 Plus has seen remarkable growth, the significant drop in interest for the iPhone 16 Pro is overshadowing these gains.

Kuo also noted that improved production yields for the tetraprism camera (5x telephoto) have enabled Apple to maintain a higher supply of the iPhone 16 Pro Max compared to the previous year’s iPhone 15 Pro Max. According to his estimates, Apple was able to produce 6 million units of the iPhone 16 Pro Max prior to its release, which marks a 106% increase from their production figures for last year.
