In an unexpected revelation, Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg is undertaking the construction of an immense $100 million estate in Hawaii, known as Koolau Ranch. This compound will reportedly include an underground bunker and an assortment of distinctive structures.
Situated on Kauai Island, the partially constructed compound is set to potentially emerge as one of the most costly personal construction projects in recent times.
As per Wired’s investigation, the complex consists of more than a dozen buildings, encompassing two central mansions connected by a tunnel that leads to a 5,000-square-foot underground shelter.
The bunker is equipped with an escape hatch that includes living space and a mechanical room. It features a “blast-resistant” concrete and steel door for added security.
The estate will feature a minimum of 30 bedrooms, 30 bathrooms, guest houses, and a group of 11 interconnected “disk-shaped” treehouses connected by rope bridges.
Remarkably, Koolau Ranch is designed with robust security measures, including keypad-locked doors, soundproofing, a concealed door within the library, and an extensive network of surveillance cameras.
The compound strives for self-sufficiency, intending to incorporate a substantial water tank and pump system to support the existing ranching and agriculture activities on its expansive 1,400-acre property.
Encircling the compound is a 6-foot wall, and all personnel are mandated to sign non-disclosure agreements.
A representative for Zuckerberg underscored that the $170 million expenditure on land purchase and construction signifies a family residence for the Facebook founder. Zuckerberg regards the compound as a sanctuary for his wife and children.
