What we expect from Galaxy Unpacked January 2025

This event is expected to showcase a diverse array of new products, with the Galaxy S25 series taking center stage. We anticipate the launch of three new devices within the Galaxy S25 lineup: the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, and Galaxy S25 Ultra. Additionally, a potential fourth device, possibly named the Galaxy S25 “Slim,” may make its debut.
The three main smartphones are likely to maintain a resemblance to the existing Galaxy S24 models, albeit with slimmer designs and a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. We also expect the unveiling of innovative AI features, along with at least one enhanced camera on the flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra.
If the Galaxy S25 Slim indeed arrives, it is anticipated to be considerably thinner than its counterparts, though information remains sparse. Its slim profile will likely be a key selling point as it competes against Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 “Air,” expected to launch in the fall. Besides fresh hardware, we anticipate the introduction of One UI 7, which has so far been available only as a beta version.
One UI 7

One UI 7 is set to bring a host of enhancements to the Samsung Android experience. Among the most notable updates is a redesigned home screen featuring simplified icons for a cleaner and more intuitive interface.
Additionally, the new "Now Bar" will provide users with quick access to personalized information, improving convenience by showcasing relevant updates such as calendar events, weather reports, and notifications without needing to navigate through various apps. This update will emphasize new AI capabilities within Galaxy devices, introducing an AI-driven personalized daily briefing to help users stay organized.
The camera application will also receive a significant overhaul, improving the user interface and introducing advanced features for photography. These upgrades are anticipated to include new shooting modes, enhanced editing options, and AI improvements for superior image quality and smart scene recognition. Overall, One UI 7 aims to elevate the user experience through personalization and cutting-edge technology.
Samsung's Bixby may also see an upgrade, enhancing its AI functionalities to align it more closely with platforms like ChatGPT and Google Gemini, following a 2024 update specifically tailored for the Chinese market that introduced localized Galaxy AI features.
Smart Glasses?

Next week, there may also be a teaser about Samsung's long-anticipated augmented reality glasses. Expected to resemble standard eyeglasses, these devices could leverage Android XR technology and are anticipated to compete with Apple's Vision Pro, set to launch later this year, featuring advanced gesture and facial recognition capabilities.
Galaxy Ring 2?

Earlier this year, Samsung launched its first Galaxy Ring, a smart ring featuring health and wellness capabilities. The release was well-received, and enhancements are being continually added to the device. Currently, two new sizes—14 and 15—are set to be made available, expanding its accessibility across the globe.
Although a Galaxy Ring 2 announcement is possible at the upcoming event, it seems unlikely. The existing model will probably remain on the market until this summer or beyond before a new version is finally unveiled.
