White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt announced on Thursday that she has welcomed her second child—a daughter named Viviana—just days after she postponed her maternity leave following an alleged assassination attempt targeting President Donald Trump.
“At 28, I am the youngest White House press secretary in history,” Leavitt shared on X, “and on May 1st, Vivi joined our family, and our hearts immediately overflowed with love. She is perfectly healthy, and her big brother is happily adjusting to having a new sister. We are savoring every moment in this beautiful newborn bubble.”
Leavitt, known for her sharp retorts to journalists, posted a photo of herself cradling her baby in a nursery.
She had initially announced her maternity leave on April 24, but her last day in the briefing room was April 28 after a gunman attempted to breach the White House grounds during the correspondents’ dinner.
This echoes the summer 2024 when her son Nicholas was born, and she returned to work on Trump’s campaign just days later amid another alleged assassination attempt at Butler, Pennsylvania.
Leavitt expressed gratitude to those who sent prayers during her pregnancy, saying, “I truly felt them throughout the entire experience. God is good.”
While the White House has yet to name a permanent replacement for Leavitt, Secretary of State Marco Rubio stepped in earlier this week, earning praise for his confident and relaxed performance at the podium.
