Before transitioning to One UI 7, it’s advisable to capture a screenshot of your current home screen layout. Some users have reported that upgrading may jostle your home screen settings significantly, akin to a scrambled Scrabble game. One UI 7 has altered its grid layout options, mainly to integrate the new Now Bar feature.
Unlike One UI 6, which allowed grid layouts of 4×5, 4×6, 5×5, and 5×6, the newer version only accommodates 4×6 and 5×6 layouts, as noted by Android Authority. If your home screen currently features an unsupported layout, expect a noticeable change post-upgrade, and you’ll need to decide how to reorganize your home screen thereafter.
The same principle applies if you’re migrating your data to a new device already running One UI 7, such as the Galaxy S25. Fortunately, there’s an alternative. The Good Lock app enables deeper customization of Samsung’s interface, and its Home Up module can create personalized grid layouts along with a DIY Home Screen feature.

While losing some layout choices may be a drawback, this is minor compared to the vast improvements that One UI 7 introduces. Its suite of AI capabilities, such as the Now Brief, Circle to Search, and Writing Assist, offers significant upgrades that enhance your device’s overall functionality.

Furthermore, the Now Bar feature resembles Apple’s Dynamic Island, providing quick access to essential information like navigation directions and real-time weather updates. Although One UI 7 introduces some changes, the enhancements it offers more than compensate for the limitations in layout options, especially considering the full customization available through the Home Up Module.
