At the Galaxy Unpacked event held in San Jose, California, Samsung unveiled its newest Galaxy S25 series. Among the highlights, the Korean tech giant dropped a major hint about a new device, the Galaxy S25 Edge, leaving spectators both in-person and online buzzing with excitement.
While Samsung kept the specifics of the new device under wraps, it did showcase various disassembled components on large screens throughout the venue. This teaser sparked intrigue among tech enthusiasts who are eager for more details. The last Edge model, the Galaxy S7 Edge, was released in 2016 and featured dual curved edges, a design that became quite popular in the smartphone market before Samsung moved to phase out the Edge branding the following year with the Galaxy S8 series. At that time, Samsung had begun exploring the potential of foldable screens, ultimately launching the original Galaxy Fold in 2019.
Looking back to 2014, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Note Edge, a pioneering gadget that started the trend of curved screens. This model featured a single curved edge and allowed users to access their favorite apps by swiping the edge, earning it praise from many tech reviewers. It’s interesting to consider that Samsung may have used these early iterations to experiment with foldable technologies.
Subsequent devices like the Galaxy S6 Edge and S6 Edge+ arrived in 2015, introducing the dual-edge design that remained popular for many years. However, as the focus shifted towards foldable designs, there seemed to be no sign of a decline in Samsung fans’ appreciation for the brand’s distinctive curved screens, particularly in competition against Apple’s more traditional flat design.
Given the clues presented at the Galaxy Unpacked event, it seems Samsung is ready to revive the Edge design after a decade. The company has promised to reveal further details later this year, and anticipation is palpable among fans.
