Your smartphone comes packed with numerous features that you appreciate but hope you never actually have to use. For instance, tools designed to help locate a lost device. Among these are safety functionalities, and Samsung has been lagging behind in the realm of crash detection compared to Pixel and iPhone models. However, recent leaks indicate that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra might incorporate a car crash detection system.
This concept isn’t entirely new. Samsung has attempted to integrate crash detection into earlier models, including the Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 5, which have the necessary sensors but lack the software to make them operational. Documentation found by Android Authority hints at the addition of a crash detection sensor; however, this doesn’t guarantee that it will be functional.
Even in devices that possess the requisite hardware, the sensors remain unutilized. The coding necessary to activate these functions has been included in One UI builds extending back to version 5.1.1, yet no method exists to enable the feature or bring it to fruition.
The inclusion of this sensor does not confirm that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will use it, although it suggests the feature could be available at launch or shortly thereafter. It’s possible that the development is not yet complete, or there may be other factors at play before it becomes available. With any luck, this feature will be rolled out soon. The car crash detection on the iPhone has already shown its effectiveness, and the addition of something similar would certainly enhance road safety.
