This month, exciting news regarding a sequel to Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood emerged, sending shockwaves through social media. Thankfully, this isn’t just another viral hoax. Industry insiders later verified that David Fincher is set to direct the follow-up, with a screenplay penned by Quentin Tarantino, and Brad Pitt will be returning to his celebrated role as Cliff Booth.
With Cliff Booth back in the spotlight, fans are now curious about the fate of Rick Dalton. Is Leonardo DiCaprio expected to reprise his role? Sources indicate that DiCaprio is in discussions with Netflix about a possible appearance, which may likely be more of a brief cameo than a full-fledged role.
Among Hollywood’s highest earners, DiCaprio typically commands between $20 million and $30 million for his film roles. He earned $20 million for his part in Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming release One Battle After Another, which is scheduled for a September opening. For his potential brief stint in the OUATIH sequel, he won’t receive his usual hefty paycheck; however, his compensation will still exceed seven figures.
During a recent episode of The Hot Mic, Jeff Sneider discussed the situation, revealing that negotiations have been slow, implying that DiCaprio is pushing for a higher fee. This has reportedly caused frustration for Netflix, Fincher, and Pitt. According to Sneider, DiCaprio has been offered $3 million for just one day of filming.
As rumors circulate about a potential filming start date in late summer, DiCaprio will need to make a decision soon to align with his upcoming projects.

As noted by Sean Fennessey from The Ringer , the upcoming sequel is set in 1977 and is more accurately described as The Further Adventures of Cliff Booth than as a direct continuation of the first film.
The original film, which was both written and directed by Tarantino, explored the dynamic between an aging Rick Dalton and his stunt double, Cliff Booth, as they navigated the shifting landscape of Hollywood. It also featured the character of Sharon Tate (played by Margot Robbie) and delved into the influence of the Manson family.
Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood achieved both critical and commercial success, grossing over $392 million globally and earning ten Oscar nominations, ultimately winning prizes for Best Supporting Actor (Pitt) and Best Production Design.
