PTCL customers across Pakistan might encounter slower internet speeds due to scheduled maintenance on a submarine cable from May 11 to 18. The telecom company confirmed that they will perform repairs on one of their international cables operated by a global consortium. The maintenance is set to begin on May 11, 2026, and could extend until May 18, 2026. During this period, internet services may experience some degradation, especially during evening hours. The company apologized for any inconvenience caused. This marks the second time in two months that PTCL has had to perform maintenance, the first being between April 14 and 20.
Meanwhile, last month, telecom providers launched 5G services in select areas after receiving spectrum licenses during a ceremony in Islamabad, which was also attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Earlier in March, the government concluded a spectrum auction in Islamabad, raising $507 million through the sale of 480 MHz of spectrum, including the critical 2,600 MHz band, to facilitate the rollout of 5G services.
