iOS 18.1 Introduces Two New Email Features for iPhone

With the rollout of iOS 18.1, Apple has implemented a significant update that simplifies the process for users wishing to change the email address linked to their accounts. Previously, users were required to first delete their existing email address before they could add a new one.

Now, thanks to the iOS 18.1 update, users can easily switch their primary email without the need to delete their current address.

The Settings application has introduced a new “Primary Email” toggle, allowing users to designate a preferred email address for all forms of communication. This change is particularly beneficial for those who utilize Gmail for collaboration on their iPhone or iPad.

Additionally, Apple is streamlining the process for users to update their primary iCloud email address, which is essential for all Apple services, including identity recovery and messaging features like iMessage and FaceTime.

This enhancement not only offers practical improvements but also adds a layer of security. In the past, users could only utilize an alias for their identity when working on a shared project; otherwise, their main email address remained visible.

There are instances where users may wish to shed an old email address that lacks professionalism. For example, many may have created an address mirroring their younger selves and would like to move past that phase.

With the new update, those on iOS 18.1 can finally change their iCloud email address to something more suitable. If you have upgraded to iOS 18.1 on your iPhone, you can make this change by navigating to Settings > Profile Name (at the top) > Sign-In & Security > Email & Phone Numbers.

The update was initially uncovered by the team at MacRumors. For those in the beta testing group, Apple has already released the sixth beta iteration of iOS 18.1, which introduces several cosmetic improvements and a few minor tweaks to the Settings app.
