The wait is finally over. HBO has announced the casting for its upcoming Harry Potter television series, revealing the actors who will portray the iconic trio.
Dominic McLaughlin will take on the role of Harry Potter, with Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. After reviewing over 30,000 applicants, HBO has chosen these three fresh faces to fill the shoes of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, who originated the roles in the film franchise.
Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod issued a statement, expressing their excitement: “After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”
This new trio joins a stellar cast for the series, which includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse.

Both Gardiner and Mylod will serve as executive producers alongside Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman.
The series has been described as a “faithful adaptation” of the books, with plans to adapt all seven volumes for television. Whether each book will fill a single season is still under consideration, but initial plans suggest a ten-year run for the show.
Filming is slated to commence this summer in the UK, with a targeted release that may have shifted from 2026 to 2027. However, Warner Bros. Television has yet to confirm an official premiere date.
Harry Potter will be available exclusively on HBO Max.
