In a recent blog update, Google introduced a more streamlined process for administrators to transition from Microsoft Teams to Google Chat, aiming to minimize interruptions. Administrators can easily manage this process through the Google Chat migration menu, allowing for direct connections to Microsoft accounts to facilitate the transfer of Teams data.
Google provided detailed instructions for admins on transferring messages. They need to link their Microsoft account and upload a CSV file that contains the Teams data to be moved. After that, it’s simply a matter of inputting the start date for the messages to be transferred and initiating the migration process. Once completed, the transferred channels, messages, and conversation histories will be accessible to Google Workspace users.
Google clarified that the migration process will not alter or delete any existing Google Chat spaces or messages. Administrators also have the option to perform a delta migration, allowing them to transfer any messages added to Teams channels after the initial migration. If there are any discrepancies or missing texts during the transfer, a report can be generated to outline which messages were skipped or encountered issues throughout the process.
Google aims to simplify the overall experience, stating, “We’re expanding our data migration capabilities to enable Google Workspace admins to transfer conversations from Microsoft Teams channels to Google Chat spaces, thereby facilitating a smoother onboarding process for organizations.”
Currently, this feature is available, although Google has indicated that it is still in the beta stage. This means users might encounter some bugs as the company continues to refine and enhance the migration process.
