Rusty Rabbit, an upcoming Metroidvania game from NetEase, is set to be released on April 17 for PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
First teased in 2023, Rusty Rabbit boasts a truly unique premise. This 2.5D Metroidvania unfolds in a post-apocalyptic world where charming anthropomorphic rabbits have taken over the Earth. Initially slated for a September 2024 launch, the release has since been postponed to 2025. Recently, NetEase provided a confirmed launch date for this quirky title.
The announcement came alongside a new trailer that previews its engaging action-adventure gameplay. In the footage, players follow Stamp, a middle-aged rabbit equipped with a mech suit, as he navigates through heaps of debris. The trailer showcases new mobility options and a mech customization feature, reminiscent of titles like Metroid and SteamWorld Dig.

For those who may not be familiar, Rusty Rabbit features notable talent. The game’s script has been crafted by Gen Urobuchi, acclaimed for his work on anime series like Fate/Zero and Psycho-Pass. The character Stamp is voiced by Takaya Kuroda in the Japanese dub and Yong Yea in English, both of whom are well-recognized for their portrayal of Kiryu Kazuma in Sega’s Like a Dragon series.
I had the opportunity to experience Rusty Rabbit at Summer Game Fest 2024, and it has continued to pique my interest ever since. Its whimsical storyline reveals that the rabbits of Earth have completely misunderstood the remnants of human culture, believing that Peter Rabbit is a sacred text and viewing themselves as the chosen species because of it. If that doesn’t intrigue you, I’m not sure what will!
Rusty Rabbit will be available on April 17 for PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
