Meta has named banker Dina Powell McCormick as its new president and vice chairwoman, enlisting a former Trump administration official to lead the company’s expansive AI infrastructure development. Powell McCormick, who sat on Meta’s board, will now join the executive team as the company embarks on an ambitious project described by CEO Mark Zuckerberg as “building the massive physical and financial framework that will drive the next decade of computing.”

“Dina’s extensive experience at the top of global finance, coupled with her strong international relationships, makes her exceptionally suited to guide Meta through this next growth phase,” Zuckerberg stated.

In another announcement, Zuckerberg highlighted that Powell McCormick will be deeply involved in all aspects of Meta’s work, especially emphasizing collaboration with governments and sovereign entities to develop, deploy, and finance Meta’s AI initiatives and infrastructure.

This move coincides with Meta’s increased investments in AI infrastructure, including new data centers and energy systems. Her banking background will be crucial—she will oversee the company’s AI infrastructure strategy and manage multi-billion-dollar investments. She will also focus on forging partnerships to boost Meta’s investment capacity, as the company aims to rival other tech giants by heavily investing in AI.

Powell McCormick, of Egyptian-American descent, spent 16 years at Goldman Sachs, where she was a partner and served on the management committee, heading the firm’s global sovereign investment banking division. Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds, major investors in AI infrastructure, may also play a role in helping Meta reach its AI spending goals.

Her most recent position was at BDT & MSD Partners, a banking and advisory firm involved in securing U.S. investors for TikTok, according to Axios. Her appointment reflects Zuckerberg’s recent political shift towards more conservative positions, evidenced by the prominence of Powell McCormick—who is one of the most visible Republican figures to join the company since Sheryl Sandberg, the former COO and Clinton administration alum, departed in 2022.

Trump praised Powell McCormick on social media, calling her “a talented person who served the Trump Administration with strength and distinction.” During Trump’s first term, she served as deputy national security advisor, shaping U.S. foreign policy. She is married to Pennsylvania Republican Senator Dave McCormick.
